Welcome to the first Wednesday Notice of the 2015-2016 school year at The Grammar School. We are excited to welcome you all to school on Tuesday, September 8. We decided to begin our Wednesday Notices two weeks early to share information about the many fun and exciting initiatives and events coming up during the next few weeks.
TGS has always worked hard to operate in a very transparent manner in all areas. We will continue this important tradition and we would like to begin the year with an overview of the various means the school uses to communicate with parents and all constituents. The following are a few examples of what role each communication vehicle should play. We realize this is a fluid and evolving list and we welcome your feedback at any time.
TGS is fortunate to have a new and comprehensive website. Our website serves as a hub of information about TGS. You can expect the website to house links to forms, documents, videos, our social media platforms, archives of the Wednesday notice, and general useful school information. Of course, our website also attempts to convey a story, as it is often a first stopping point of inquiry for students and parents who are researching TGS for the first time.
Housed in the TGS website is our All School Calendar. This calendar lists every major event and date of importance to the TGS community. We hope that you will bookmark this and revisit it regularly, as events may be updated or added. This living document is tailored to best suit the evolving school year, and we have consolidated all of our external calendars into one to make this easier for parents to view and stay up to date.
Every Wednesday TGS sends out the Wednesday Notice. This letter provides a general update reflecting on important events, upcoming initiatives and happenings, and information or stories we feel are valuable to share. The Notice also provides an opportunity to announce pertinent community updates and events. It is a weekly touch point that guarantees you are hearing from TGS. Please read it regularly, as it is a tremendous way to stay up to speed on what is happening at our great school.
School Blog
After the start of the school year we will host a TGS blog. This blog will be linked in the Notice and on the website and will feature posts from teachers and other members of the school community on a rotating basis. This is a new initiative to help highlight the incredible work that takes place at TGS. We hope you like it!
TGS uses Facebook to help build engagement with our families, prospective families, alumni and the broader community. Facebook has become an increasingly helpful way to share updates such as changes to sports games, cancellations, and new TGS videos and myriad other things. We will continue to offer Throw Back Thursday posts, current and fun pictures, and to share articles of significance related to education and the school's pedagogy. Thank you for engaging with us on Facebook!
Home Notes
One of the most personal and powerful modes of communication that we have at TGS is our tradition of home notes. You can expect these from your child's homeroom teacher on a regular basis. They encompass classroom events, anecdotes, pictures, and a look ahead, and are a valuable means of communication as we continue to cultivate our conscious partnership with each of you.
All School Emails
We try to be as conscientious as possible when balancing how often to send All School Emails. It is our hope that this balance is right, and that we communicate what is important and special, without flooding your inbox. It is our hope that emails that come from TGS are reviewed so that important messages and details are not missed.
Please join us on Saturday at 9:00am for our annual Fall TGS Work Day! We have a job for everyone and we need your help as we all strive to make our campus ready for the first day of school. Check in with Kurt upon arrival and feel free to bring rakes, shovels, gloves, loppers, or other tools of your preference. We will have a cook out starting at noon and we are so excited to see you all for this fun and productive day.
