GREETINGS FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
We want to congratulate all of our seventh and eighth grade students for their incredible performances last week during the production of Beauty and the Beast. It was a pleasure to see so many parents, students, friends and alums in attendance each night and we are already excited about next year. All of the staff, parents, and friends of the school who worked to make this production a success have my deepest appreciation and gratitude.
Thank you to all of you who have returned your enrollment contracts for next year. We are excited to welcome back so many students and also to welcome so many new students. 2015-2016 is already promising to be a great year!
On Thursday you will receive a link to our annual TGS survey. We are pleased to offer you this opportunity to provide valuable feedback on your experience at TGS. The survey will run from Thursday, April 2 to Thursday April 16. If you have more than one child at TGS, there are specific instructions in the email you will receive on Thursday to help you fill out one survey that covers all of your children.
This week marks the beginning of our middle school art electives. Tomorrow seventh and eighth graders embark on a six-week intensive study of a single medium. Students have extended three-hour class periods, which allow for in-depth inquiry and the opportunity to explore a longer work in an area of new interest or to further develop a known strength. This year, students will study black and white 35mm photography at InSight Photography, video production with artist and TGS parent Rachel Portesi, and screen printing with our art teacher Hannah Richards. This is an exciting time for our middle schoolers to pursue focused projects that synthesize the concepts of art making that they've studied over many years at TGS, with an intensive study of their chosen medium.
If you are at all interested in the Hermitage Club memberships being offered by TGS for the Auction, please see the announcement below about a special offer to pick them up quickly before they are offered to the general public!
Please join me in congratulating Michael Brown who has accepted the position of Head of School at Mountain Sun Community School, in Brevard, NC. Michael had previously served on the Board of Trustees at MSCS and he is excited to serve as their second Head of School starting July 1. We will miss Michael, Susan, Noah, and Wren, and wish them all the best of luck as they head back to North Carolina on this new adventure. Michael has done a wonderful job this year in admissions at TGS and I thank him for all he has offered our school. Meanwhile, a search for a new Director of Admissions is underway and we are impressed and pleased with the volume and quality of candidates who have applied. We will keep the community posted as we make progress in the search and as always, please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.

HERMITAGE CLUB MEMBERSHIPS
The Grammar School is fortunate to be able to auction three one-year memberships to The Hermitage Club, an extraordinary four season ski and golf resort in Wilmington, VT. We are now preselling the first two memberships for $4,000 each, on a first come, first served basis. The third membership will be sold as part of our May 1event, and is currently on our online auction platform. If you would like to purchase one of these two memberships, please contact Dan via email. This offer will extend beyond the TGS community by the end of day on Thursday. Thank you!SPRING INTO READING CHALLENGE The "Spring into Reading" reading challenge begins today and runs through Wednesday, April 17. Students in K-8 should have received their reading challenge packets. Please read the information carefully.
This is a noncompetitive reading challenge. Readers challenge themselves. For some, reading daily will be their challenge, while for others, their challenge will be to read longer each day. Join the fun by making this a family affair. Parents are encouraged to participate. To kick off the 15 day challenge, students, faculty, and staff came to school dressed as a favorite book character today and ended the day with a special buddy activity. For most students, parental support creating a contract and recording the minutes is crucial. So, if you have any questions or need more materials, please contact me or visit the Library page. Happy Reading, Ponnie OPUS 30
Congratulations to TGS fifth graders Darius Parker and Zoe Robb whose music compositions were recently selected to be performed live by professional musicians in the free Opus 30 concert scheduled for Wednesday, April 29 at the Chandler Music Center in Randolph, VT at 6:30pm. Other students may attend the day of workshops, dinner, and concert as guests for $15 each. Please email Alli if you're interested in having your child attend for the day. The other entrants are Willa Dana and Georgia Hornsby, Burton Townsend, Skye Morehouse, Gunnar Caldwell, Ariana Cioffi, Madelyn Seymour and Boolie Walton. THANK YOU! A big thank you from the Concession Committee to all those who contributed delicious baked goods and all the students and parents who helped at intermission at the musical. It was a big success. If you left a platter, plate, or container they are all in the faculty room. See you next year! TGS SWEATSHIRTS!
Our second order of TGS sweatshirts will be here soon, and we will continue to order more as long as there is interest. Hooded or crewneck sweatshirts are $35, Tshirts are $15, and a student's name on the back is an additional $5. Please email Mary to order, and specify style, size, color, and name choice.
