GREETINGS FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

It has been an emotional week for our community as we reflect on the life and passing of Mark Green, former TGS Development Director and parent of Libby and Hannah, two esteemed TGS alumnae. Mark is remembered for his love of The Grammar School, his family, friends, and colleagues. He brought tireless energy to his work, and he appreciated every opportunity that brought people together in a professional context and in social gatherings. As Development Director, he could blend these seamlessly. He is missed. Mark's obituary is in the Brattleboro Reformer today.

Mark Green and Chris Harlow - 2006 Medieval Faire

This Friday we hope many parents will be able to attend the Variety Show at 1:25. The sixth grade did an excellent job organizing this student talent showcase and we are all excited for this iteration of an annual event. We've seen a few demo performances and are looking forward to seeing our students' talents and celebrating their efforts as they display their passion and work on Friday.

So much happens in and out of classrooms at TGS each week, and this week seems particularly full of fun and enriching visitors and activities. We welcomed international visitors from The Putney School in third and fourth grades today who worked with students to teach them more about their native culture. We are fortunate to have so many other educational institutions in close proximity. We welcome the ways that other students can help enrich the TGS experience and provide an opportunity for multicultural education.

I want to thank Mary Heller Osgood and Kathy Richardson for all they did to organize our ski programs this winter. While our nordic skiing will last as long as the snow pack stays with us, our Okemo and Grafton programs are over for the year. We appreciate all that the teachers, parents, and students did to make this a meaningful and successful program.

Tomorrow morning there will be a Head of School Coffee in the Library at 8:30. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss current initiatives at TGS and other exciting topics with those who are able to attend.

Spring is a VERY busy time at TGS, full of meaningful events and rituals for our students. While I hope parents are able to attend as many as possible, I want to put an early plug in for one of our most important and unique events, graduation. This year graduation will be held on Thursday, June 11 , which will be here before we know it!

Thanks,

Dan
