GREETINGS FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

We are so glad to have our students back after the holiday break and we are excited about the year ahead. I am impressed by the compassion shown by our community and the outpouring of support for the Fletchers during this challenging time. We are so glad to see Aiden and Liam in school this week, and we will continue to keep the Fletchers in our thoughts.

Our ski program began yesterday, with students going to Okemo and Dusty Ridge. Despite challenging snow conditions for Nordic skiing, Mary Heller and Chris Osgood were able to create a few kilometers of good skiing, after a great deal of labor. We appreciate all the work these two did, as they have for years, to support nordic skiing at TGS. Kathy and crew  ran a great day at Okemo, and we thank her for organizing all the details of that important program. It was fun to see the students' smiling faces when they returned for cocoa after a brisk and rewarding first day on the snow. We are hopeful for more natural snow in the future and for a robust ski season for all.

We are thrilled to welcome two new students to TGS this week. Abby Spear has joined the eighth grade and has jumped right in to all that the Upper School has to offer. Merritt Goodell has had her first day in the preschool and is quickly making friends and exploring the joys of penguin sledding. Please join me in welcoming these new families to our community.

With the new year, we have some employee transitions to announce. Director of Development Vijay Chitnis has decided to stay in Providence to pursue other projects closer to home. We thank him for his contributions to TGS and wish him the best of luck in his new ventures.

We have begun a search for a new Director of Development as of today, and we will keep the community informed regarding the progress of the search. A full job description is available on our website and we look forward to filling this important position. In the meantime, anyone with questions about development at TGS, or who wishes to make a gift, should feel free to speak with me.

We are delighted that Jared Stolper has added 5th-6th grade chorus to his existing TGS responsibilities. Please join me in thanking Jenna Rae for all her good work with 5th-6th chorus this fall. We wish her the best of luck and look forward to seeing her around TGS in the future.

This evening is the much anticipated Studio concert, highlighting musical performances by students in grades 7 and 8. We look forward to a lovely evening and I hope to see many of you here as we celebrate our students' musical accomplishments together.

Sincerely,

Dan

STUDIO CONCERT TONIGHT AT 6:30PM
Eight graders rehearsing for concert

AMELIA AND WELLS SELECTED FOR OPUS 29
"Morning Melody," a trio for French horn, piano and snare drum, composed by sixth graders Amelia Opsahl and Wells Mundell-Wood, was selected for Opus 29 and will be performed by professional musicians at the Opus 29 Concert on Monday, January 12. Members of the sixth grade class entered three compositions into the Opus 29 competition run by Music-COMP, and this is the second time Amelia and Wells have been selected. They were mentored by their music teacher, Alli Lubin, as well as by professional composers throughout Vermont, as part of the Music-COMP program. The Opus 29 concert is at the Elley-Long Music Center at St. Michael's College in Colchester.

Eight fifth graders and one sixth grader will accompany the composers to enjoy an afternoon of workshops, rehearsals, dinner, and the concert. Many thanks to the parent drivers who are making this journey possible. The fifth graders will be entering Opus 30 in the spring and this will be an outstanding incentive and learning experience for them all.

Congratulations once again to Amelia and Wells!

WINTER SPORTS
TGS students will XC ski during PSD, snow conditions permitting. Please remind your children to have their XC skis, boots, and poles in the Ski Haus or Upper School shed for PSD! Students also should have warm hats, neck gaiters, mittens, parkas, and snowpants for recess and PSD. All students should keep a dry set of clothing (including shoes and socks) in their cubbies.
