GREETINGS FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
With the distinct chill in the air and the story of six feet of snow in Buffalo, it is hard not to get excited about the upcoming winter and the idea that we will all be skiing soon! Think snow!
Yesterday TGS sent out a survey to gather your input on our Master Plan. If you have not had a chance to fill it out, or did not receive it, you can find the survey here, as well. Thank you in advance for helping with this - we value your input!
On December 5 at 8:30 in the Library, we will hold our monthly Head of School Coffee. For this HOS Coffee, I will be joined by many members of our TGS Board of Trustees, who will be on hand to speak about our emerging Master Plan and to answer any questions about the important work that they do to support TGS in all areas. I hope to see many of you there!
Today at All School Meeting students worked with their buddies to prepare harvest baskets full of side dishes for Thanksgiving dinners for the Putney Food Shelf. Thank you all for donating these valuable food items, and thank you to Basketville for donating the baskets. This is a meaningful activity that makes a big difference to families in need in Windham County and is one of the many times in the year that TGS students help the Putney Food Shelf.
Long time TGS Development Director and former parent Mark Green sent us a letter about his experience as a TGS parent. While many of you may have seen this already on our TGS Facebook page, his letter is also available here. We thank Mark for all he's done for TGS as an employee and parent, and now as an ambassador in sharing his daughters' successes.
I hope to see many of you at the Foreign Language Night tomorrow at TGS!
Dan

COMMUNITY NEWS
Rockingham Brooks and Trails at Rockingham Library
On Thursday, November 20 at 7:00pm, a member of the Rockingham Conservation Commission, Peter Bergstrom, will discuss the brooks and hiking trails of the Town of Rockingham at the Rockingham Free Public Library. Mike Ghia, chair of the Rockingham Conservation Commission, who has worked on local trails, will also be present to answer questions about trails. Some area brooks and waterfalls have no names on published maps. Sometimes, old maps or "old timers" know names for them, however. If no historic names can be found, new ones can be proposed by the public. People care more about waterways that have names, so naming them can increase stewardship of them. Bergstrom will describe the process of getting local, state and finally federal recognition for each new name, and making sure the names get used. Local hiking trails are a way for people to appreciate our natural beauty while getting exercise. Bergstrom will describe existing hiking trails in Rockingham, such as the ones around Minards Pond, and also describe some other trails in an near Rockingham. Bergstrom, a retired fisheries biologist who worked on the Chesapeake Bay cleanup for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the US Fish and Wildlife Service, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), led a similar waterway naming project in Maryland. For more information, call 802.463.4270, email anne@rockinghamlibrary.org, go online to www.rockinghamlibrary.org, or stop by the Rockingham Library at 65 Westminster St., Bellows Falls, VT.

HOST FAMILIES NEEDED FOR MEXICAN EXCHANGE STUDENT Might your family consider hosting a 16-year old exchange student from Mexico who is attending BUHS this year through PAX, the Program of Academic Exchange? Mariano is a dynamic and compassionate boy and an excellent student. He likes sports (soccer, volleyball), music (singing, playing the guitar), and outdoor activities such as fishing and camping. Mariano is responsible, outgoing, and appreciative...he is an outstanding young man. Mariano is currently in a welcome family without children and is eager to be in a younger, more lively environment. Host families do not need a separate bedroom, as long as you can provide a bed in a room with a host sibling and a place to study. They have spending money of their own for personal expenses and separate medical insurance. To learn more, contact Ann Newsmith at 802-257-4710, exchangevt@gmail.com.
