GREETINGS FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
I am continually impressed by our dedicated and creative faculty, and I am equally impressed by our student body. Our students go out of their way to demonstrate and model their compassion for each other on a daily basis, while welcoming new students and faculty into the fold at TGS. Today we held our first buddy activity of the year, where assigned buddy pairs spent time together in a formal mentor role. This intentional structure, put in place to encourage mentorship and to create community between grades, speaks to the supportive and nurturing culture that is so evident at TGS. Buddy pairs finished their time together by hanging their Wish Strips among the lilac bushes at the entrance to TGS. I hope you take a moment at drop off and pick up to read a few of these before the autumn weather takes them away. Your children demonstrate their thoughtfulness, their care, and their conscientiousness in these sometimes silly, and often poignant, wishes!
TGS is very fortunate to have a tremendously dedicated and talented Board of Trustees, made up of current parents, past parents, and community members. Our Board is committed to transparency and TGS maintains a space for community members to learn more about the BOT and its function on our website. Minutes or summaries of each BOT meeting are available on our site and serve as an excellent window into the work that this important group accomplishes. Fall sports have begun and we have many students signed up for soccer and XC running. If your child is still interested in playing a sport and has not signed up, I want to encourage you to ask them to give a TGS sport a try. Our sports teams strive to create a positive peer culture, a love of being active, and an opportunity to work hard while bonding with your peers. I look forward to seeing many of you at our practices and games throughout the fall! Over the summer, TGS received a generous grant from the AKC fund and purchased a 3D Printer and 3D Scanner to create a new maker space to further advance our STEAM initiatives throughout the school. We are excited to announce that we have successfully printed our first object, shown below, and look forward to exploring the creative paths these new tools will lead our students down in the weeks and years to come, as we continue to cultivate an ecosystem of innovation in our classrooms.
Dan
Fall sports have started, but there still is time to join an after school activity.

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT
We hope you will join us for Back to School Night on Tuesday, September 16. We are planning an exciting evening of conversation, curricular exploration, and group activities. Students and teachers have begun preparing their classrooms for your visit, and it promises to be a lovely community event.
The evening will run from 6:30-8:00pm. We suggest you try to come a bit early to enjoy the art show and to sign up for volunteer opportunities at the Medieval Faire. We will also have information available about our STEAM after-school clubs.
We want to enable every parent to enjoy the program we have planned. Our teachers work hard to create exciting, challenging, and memorable learning experiences for your children every day and they are eager to share some of these experiences with you. Therefore, childcare will not be provided during Back to School Night. If finding childcare at home presents a particular challenge for you, please let us know and we will see if we can help you arrange something. We hope that you will be able to attend the event and to take part in the magic of TGS!
All the best, Apple
MEDIEVAL FAIRE! SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11
Planning is under way for this year's Faire! Watch for updates from your class parents and in the Wednesday Notice. Volunteer sign-ups will begin at Back to School Night on September 16, and will continue online until Faire day. There are some exciting new events this year, including a joust and dramatic skits featuring some of TGS's finest! If you have any questions, please contact Melanie Kent, Jen Robb, or Jen Jacobs. PUTNEY FOOD SHELF Welcome to another school year, and with that a return to our school's shared community services, including the Putney Food Shelf. The food shelf's mission is to provide supplemental HEALTHY food for area people in need. For the month of September, the third grade is responsible for collecting non-perishable food items and toiletries. A basket is outside the main office and another is outside the third grade classroom. THANK YOU!
STEM + Art = STEAM This year we're expanding our science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) program to include art. Beginning in November, TGS will once again host after school clubs in artistic innovation on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15 until 5:00. Classes will include pottery and creative writing, as well as the ever popular Lego Robotics and a variety of other exciting activities. More information on the schedule and registration details will be available at Back to School Night on September 16. You also may email Jen Robb with any questions or suggestions.
