THE GRAMMAR SCHOOL WEDNESDAY NOTICE

   June 4, 2014

GREETINGS FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

Yesterday we held the annual move up day ceremony, where we honor our departing eighth grade class, and returning students spend a portion of the morning with their teachers for the 2014-2015 school year. This is an important ritual for our students as they reflect on the past year and begin to anticipate the excitement of next year's adventures. Despite this ceremony, it stills seems incredible that we are closing the year in a little more than a week, given all of the events and activities taking place between now and then. From plunges in the culvert to trips to Mt. Washington, final presentations and a rafting expedition, students are active and making the most of these final days together. As one year winds down, many of us are already busy planning for upcoming events, such as our  Summer Camps, which begin in on July 7 and are filling up quickly.

This Friday and Saturday many of us will represent TGS at the Strolling of the Heifers in Brattleboro. Thank you in advance to all of you who are planning to join in the festivities and I look forward to seeing you there.

We are extending the deadline for the annual TGS survey until Friday. Thank you in advance for filling this out, as we value your feedback and input on your TGS experience.

Sincerely,
Dan

STROLLING OF THE HEIFERS PARADE SATURDAY!

TGS will again march in the SOTH parade on Saturday, June 7. All students and parents are welcome, but if you think you are coming let our parent coordinator, Michael Hornsby, know so we have a rough estimate. No float this year...walking only.

We will be lining up in the Church parking lot on Flat Street. This is the parking lot in-between the Youth Theatre and the Brattleboro Town parking lot, where Flatter-me-Hair is located. Please be there no later than  9:30am - the parade starts at 10:00 sharp. We will be at the finish at the Retreat gates between 10:45 and 11.

Please wear a TGS T-shirt and a pair of sunglasses, kids and adults! Our theme will be "Our future's so bright we have to wear shades!"  Keep an eye on the weather - we march rain or shine. Questions? mhornsby@brimstoneconsulting.com.

THE YARD SALE WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!
Thank you so much to everyone who donated and helped make the yard sale happen. It offered many local families the opportunity to buy quality items at bargain prices. I appreciate all your help! Deb

OLYMPIAN NOAH HOFFMAN VISITS 4TH GRADE

TGS 4th graders were excited to welcome XC skier Noah Hoffman back to TGS. Noah is coached by Zach Caldwell '84, and always takes the time to visit Gunnar Caldwell's '18 class when he is in Putney. Noah says, "I have visited Gunnar's class many times in the past two years, but I hadn't seen them since November. It was awesome to check in, tell them some stories from Sochi and hear about their winter." Thank you, Noah!

ALL LIBRARY BOOKS NOW DUE

It's that time of year again, and all library books must now be returned to the library. Overdue notices will be distributed this week, so please help your children find and return their library books. Sometimes in their excitement to have a library book, children forget to actually check them out. Please be on the look out for any of these stray library books that are not on an overdue notice. Backpacks, book shelves, under car seats, in closets, under beds - books can be found in unexpected places!

Thank you for a great year in the library, Ponnie

ADULT SUMMER READING RECOMMENDATIONS

Each year we offer summer reading lists for students entering grades 2-8 in the fall. And for added fun, we also provide a list of summer reading suggestions for adults. Fun, thought provoking, informative, award winners ... any genre. If you have a book or books to suggest for the adult summer reading list that will appear on our website, please let me know. Thanks, Ponnie pderby@thegrammarschool.org
