GREETINGS FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
I'll try to recap highlights from the previous seven days, but to do justice to the events of the previous week would take a few pages! Needless to say, with so many events and activities on and off campus, things have been particularly busy at TGS, and we've been loving every minute of it!
Last Thursday we hosted the first ever TGS Golf Tournament, affectionately dubbed the "Syrup Scramble," at the Brattleboro Country Club. There were around 40 attendees, from young alumni, to parents, past parents, grandparents, and friends of TGS. A great time was had by all, and we already are looking forward to next year's event, where we expect an even larger turnout.
On Friday we dodged the heavy rain and welcomed a record crowd of grandparents and grandfriends to TGS for a superb Grandparents Day. Grandparents Day was such a special event for all involved; the student performances were outstanding and it was so nice to see students with their grandparents showing off their school!
This spring a group of 20 plus runners have gathered twice a week for Girls on The Run at TGS, coached by Jen Robb and Clare Mundell, among others. I have enjoyed seeing this group practice for the past few weeks, and respect their approach to the sport of running and fitness in general. GOTR is an incredible program and I am so proud of all of our students who participated. My family joined them for their final 5K in Brattleboro, and it was a powerful and enjoyable event with a massive turn out. It was so nice to see our girls encouraging each other as everyone ran at her own pace to finish the race.
Today was the culmination of our Global Education Theme for the year, where we studied Ecuador. We began the day with a video, skits, and an Ecuadorean fashion show on the red carpet by our eighth graders. Everyone then took a trip through the Ecuador Marketplace, where students had the opportunity to purchase beautiful handcrafted items that Liz Jackson and her students brought back with them from their trip. I'm always impressed by the depth of the questions that our students ask and today was no exception as students asked the eighth graders to talk more and more about their experiences in Ecuador. We all enjoyed a special Ecuadorian feast of plantains, rice, avocado, tortillas, and many more wonderful foods. A theme for the day was sustainability and students used reusable plates and hand washed their dishes at a washing station after the meal. It was a true community event and a wonderful way to celebrate GET this year. I want to thank Linda Kosiba for all she does to organize GET for TGS, and Liz Jackson for her energy and effort to bring Ecuador alive at TGS today.

I hope to see many of you at the Spring Concert on Thursday night. We only have a few weeks left of the academic year, and they are packed with trips, activities, and events. We are excited to get the most out of the remainder of the year and keep our energy high until we depart for summer!
Sincerely,
Dan Marchetti
Head of School

DROP IN CENTER NEEDS ITEMS
Dear TGS Community,
I went to The Brattleboro Drop-In Center and asked them what they needed right now. Several people responded, but all said the same thing. Men's clothing is always needed, and they are especially low right now. All items appreciated. They also need camping equipment, especially tents, as the homeless shelters are now closed for the season and many, many people are living outside, in all weather. They can use tents of any size, sleeping bags, tarps, and utensils and pots and pans. I am happy to deliver any items you can donate. Drop them off at the upper school building. Thank you in advance. Laurie
See what your students are up to in art class lately! These links are organized by grade, and I hope you'll browse to see what everyone else is doing, too. Thanks, Hannah

During the month of May, Hop's seventh graders will be collecting non-perishable foods and toiletries (soap, toothpaste, packets of diapers, etc.) for the Putney Food Shelf. Putney Family Services values TGS's consistent support of the Foodshelf. We encourage you to give in "6"s (six boxes of mac 'n' cheese, six cans of corn, six of whatever!) that would help support PFS's Family Food Bag program. Baskets will be located in the Upper School and outside the main office. Donations can also be brought in to your child's homeroom teacher. Let's make a difference in the lives of others this month! Thank you!
