THE GRAMMAR SCHOOL WEDNESDAY NOTICE

   April 30, 2014

GREETINGS FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
Last Thursday over seventy alumni, parents, grandparents, trustees and friends of TGS gathered at the Yale Club in New York to share an evening with Ken Burns in support of TGS. It was a wonderful evening and we look forward to many more like it in the future. I was fortunate to share a table with ten TGS alumni and enjoyed hearing their stories and learning about what they valued the most about their TGS experience. Excellent pictures from the evening are available on our Facebook page, and a full article about the evening will appear in the spring edition of Roots and Wings. We are grateful to all who attended the evening, to our generous sponsors, to our amazing event committee, and especially to Ken Burns for his inspiring insights and incredible support of TGS.

On Saturday, many parents and students braved the elements and gathered for Work Day. While the frigid temperatures and rain may have kept the attendance down, the weather did not dampen our accomplishments, and parents weeded, raked, cleaned, and cared for our lovely campus. Work day is but one of the many times that our parents pull together to accomplish great work for TGS. We appreciate everyone's time, energy, and expertise in caring for our campus.

In less than five hours, we will open the curtain on the first of four productions of Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr, this year's 7th and 8th grade musical. We were treated to two excellent dress rehearsals on Monday and Tuesday and we could not be more excited about the shows to come. All of the 7th and 8th grade students have a great deal to be proud of this week, as they show off their hard work through these excellent shows. I strongly encourage all parents to make an effort to attend the musical this spring, even if you do not have a child performing, as a TGS musical has to be seen to be believed, and words alone do not do justice to the spectacular experience these students create for the audience. It goes without saying that the musical would not happen each year without the dedication and talent of our wonderful parent volunteers, and the leadership of our faculty and staff. I look forward to seeing many of you over the next four nights as we celebrate together the accomplishments of this talented group of students!

Sincerely,
Dan
