GREETINGS FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL I hope you all enjoyed your optional conferences on Friday and the long weekend with your families. TGS faculty gathered on Monday for a day of professional development work, focusing on year one objectives from our Strategic Plan. If you have not seen the Strategic Plan, an online version is now available on our website. Spring is a very busy time on campus and this week and next are no exceptions. We have our annual Spring work day on Saturday from 9:00-12:00 and Chris has a bevy of ambitious projects for all abilities of volunteers to participate it. We greatly appreciate the sense of spirit and community that is present on Work Day and are grateful for everyone's efforts and talents as we give our campus a spring tune up. I look forward to seeing many of you there. We all are excited for next week's debut of Thoroughly Modern Millie, running Wednesday through Saturday. I am continually impressed by the work that our students have put into this musical and can't wait to see every performance. I am similarly impressed and awed by the great work of our parent volunteers in pulling together so many essential functions of the musical, from costumes to programs, and everything in between.This promises to be a memorable string of shows and will not disappoint. Spring Sports start next week, and it is not too late to sign up. We have a diverse array of engaging after school options for students and I am excited for our students to try new sports and be active in the afternoons in the woods, on the fields, and on the run! Finally, on Thursday night TGS is hosting an event at The Yale Club in New York with Ken Burns. While the room is quite full so far and the evening promises to be incredible, we do have room for a few more if you, or someone you know, wish to attend. Sincerely,
Dan Marchetti
Head of School

Please bring rakes, shovels, gardening tools, painting clothes, chain saws and weed whackers. A small wheelbarrow also is helpful. Make sure you clearly mark your tools so we can return any that may be left behind.

2014 SUMMER CAMP IN SPAIN - Culture and Language Immersion Program
June 28 - July 12, 2014 (15 days) Led by Liz Jackson with Gogi Abroad for ages 13-16
HOST FAMILIES NEEDED FOR SPANISH STUDENTS THIS SUMMER
Expand your family's horizons this summer by welcoming a student from Spain into your home through the STEP-to-U.S.A. program. The boys and girls, who range in age from 14 to 17, will arrive on June 25 and spend 3 1/2 weeks in the U.S., departing on July 20.
The students are all from the Basque region of Spain and are at an intermediate English level. Host families provide a warm and safe home environment for the student, as well as meals and transportation to a meeting spot on the days there are field trips ( Boston and Six Flags--host families are invited to come along). It's fine for a student to share a room with a host sibling, and the students have their own spending money, medical insurance and phone cards.
Interested families are encouraged to call Ann Newsmith at 802-257-4710 or email exchangeVT@gmail.com. Host families are also needed for exchange students who will be attending BUHS and other area schools.

PUTNEY FOOD SHELF SEEKS VOLUNTEERS! Are you looking for a meaningful way to give to your community? Volunteering for the Putney Foodshelf may be just the opportunity you've been looking for. Come join us on Saturday, April 19th, have your curiosity satisfied and learn about the ways you might join our dynamic group of volunteers.
We are committed to helping our neighbors, whose budgets are stretched too far to feed themselves and their families. Simply stated, we provide healthy, supplemental food to those in need. But that is only a part of what we do...
Since the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program fund cuts in November, we have seen a marked increase in the number of individuals and families needing our support. And, with increasing numbers comes the need for more volunteers. While more than 90% of our clientele live and work right here in Putney, we serve people from nearby towns who feel the stigma of walking into their hometown food shelves. We understand their reserve and seek only to make sure that our "food insecure" neighbors have the ability to feed themselves. In addition to providing food, we work with Putney Family Services and SEVCA to help them apply for other federal, state and local assistance programs that can make the difference in making ends meet in a struggling economy.
There are many ways that volunteers help the Putney Foodshelf. The following is a partial list of areas where volunteers are needed.
* Open Foodshelf Hours: 9-10 AM Saturdays, 6-7PM Tuesdays
* Food pick up from the VT Foodbank in Brattleboro and other locations.
* Stocking shelves at the Putney Foodshelf, located at the Putney Community Center.
* Bookkeeping assistance.
* Grant writing.
* Family Food Bag - preparing bags of nutritious meals and snacks for Putney Central School students to take home for the weekend.
* Fundraising- We are always looking for creative and energetic individuals who like to plan, organize and coordinate fundraisers.
We are a small, fun and friendly group of volunteers who invite you to join us for a few hours to show you our facility, explain in depth our goals and help you envision your place in our organization.
Please join us on April 19th, from 3-5 PM, at the Putney Community Center, located at 10 Christian Square, Putney, VT. RSVP to Lani, Volunteer Coordinator, at PutneyFoodshelf@gmail.com
