GREETINGS FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
Dear TGS Parents and Families,
Please join me in welcoming Anya Dodge, from Saxtons River, who joined the 4th grade class today! We are excited to welcome Anya and her parents, Owen Dodge and Laura Senes, to the TGS community.
By now many of you have noticed that we have done a full overhaul of the TGS website. We are very pleased with our new site and I hope you will join me in congratulating Paul and Ruthie Siegel, and the TGS staff, specifically Phil, Mary, and David, who helped make this vision a reality. While an official press release about the new site is forthcoming, I hope you enjoy the increased functionality of the new site. Among many great new features, our teachers are now working with one unified Blog platform, in hopes of streamlining and increasing our capacities to communicate with families about what is happening in our classes. While the site is considered done, it is in many ways a living being that we will continue to improve and modify to best suit the needs of our constituents. We welcome any feedback you may have and again, I hope you enjoy navigating it.
Lastly, Monday, February 1 is the deadline for families to apply for Financial Aid for the 2014-2015 school year at TGS. It is very important to adhere to this deadline so that we are able to assist you as best we can. If you have specific questions about Financial Aid, please direct them to Phil.
Sincerely, Dan
Dan Marchetti

TGS LIBRARY CELEBRATES 54TH BIRTHDAY
Wednesday, February 5, the Library will celebrate its 54th birthday next week with a fun party. The entire school fills the library to celebrate reading, books, and our library with lively entertainment and gift opening. And since it's a birthday party, we end with yummy cupcakes.
Last week an announcement and library wish list were sent home with students. For a copy of the updated wish list, please go to the Library Page or pick one up in the library.
If you would be willing to bake cupcakes for the celebration, please let me know. We will need about eleven dozen - so far Christy and Emily have volunteered.
Please contact me with any questions, concerns, or if you will be able to bake cupcakes. Your support is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Ponnie

UPCOMING FINANCIAL AID DEADLINES!
As deadlines for submission of the Parent Financial Statement (PFS) and supporting documents draw ever closer, I want to emphasize The Grammar School's ever-increasing desire to be more sustainable. Families applying for financial aid are encouraged to complete the process online. Paper copies of the PFS are available, but keep in mind that it is more expensive for families to submit a paper version and it takes School and Student Service much longer to process.

Snowshoe Animal Tracking Hike in Dummerston on Saturday, February 8
Lynn Levine will present "Snow Secrets: Exploring Mammal Tracks" on Saturday, February 8, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This workshop is offered by The Nature Museum at Grafton and will take place in Dummerston. The easy to moderate animal tracking hike will likely require snowshoes, depending on weather conditions. It is open to adults and to children age 10 and up. (Children must be accompanied by an adult.) Registrants will meet in Dummerston and will carpool to nearby Nature Conservancy land, where there are relic red cedar trees. The group will tramp into the winter woods with Levine, who will demonstrate how to identify signs of wildlife. The group will reconvene at Levine's home after the hike for a presentation and a question and answer session. Levine is a noted tracking expert and a licensed forester. She is the co-author of Mammal Tracks and Scat: Life-Size Tracking Guide and the author of Snow Secrets. She holds a master's degree in forestry from the University of Massachusetts. The snow date for this event is Sunday, February 9. Pre-registration is required, and space is limited. Early-bird registration (by Wednesday, January 29) costs $20 per person. After January 29, if any spaces remain available, registration will be $25. There will be no registration on the day of the event. 2014 SUMMER CAMP IN SPAIN - Culture and Language Immersion Program June 28 - July 12, 2014 (15 days) Led by Liz Jackson with Gogi Abroad - Ages 13-16
Immerse yourself in Spanish language and culture this summer in Cadiz, Spain, the oldest city in Europe. Explore the cobblestone streets, friendly faces, and vibrant culture that Cadiz has to offer. In the afternoons, experience beautiful beaches and historical sites of the city and the region! Each afternoon will be filled with fun activities for teens (such as instruction in surfing, sea kayaking, Spanish cooking, sunset boat excursions, and tons of time exploring the many unspoiled beaches). We will travel to typical white Andalucían villages and soak up all the sites and different foods of the region. You will grow your Spanish skills through real world interactions as you speak with locals, your host family, and new friends. At K2 Internacional School you will not just be another student. You will receive personal attention due to the small class sizes (around 10 per class) with friendly teachers who create interesting, interactive classes. You will enjoy three hours of classroom Spanish and have the opportunity to utilize phrases and idioms in real life situations and expand your knowledge in a comfortable setting. After class is the time you can really apply your Spanish. The classroom provides you with more confidence to go out into the world and use what you know!
