GREETINGS FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
It is wonderful to be back at TGS with your children after a long and restful vacation. We have had an unusual start to this week, with a snow day and the "Polar Vortex" to contend with, but we are settling into the school routine well and both students and faculty are ready to be back and focus on having an excellent 2014! I hope you will all join me in welcoming our newest student, Skye Morehouse, to TGS! Skye joined our 4th grade on Tuesday and we are very excited to have him and and his family with us.
Strategic Plan
I am pleased to report that during our Board of Trustees meeting last night, the Board voted to adopt the new TGS Strategic Plan! I want to thank everyone who had a hand in the process of shaping this important document that will help us chart the future of TGS. I am especially grateful to the Strategic Planning Committee for their countless hours of work, and to the leadership of Julie Burns and Peter Eden, who chaired the committee. I look forward to sharing updates regularly on the implementation of STP initiatives with the community as we move forward.
Ski Program
Yesterday I was very fortunate to be able to join the TGS nordic skiers at Grafton Ponds for a blustery tour. What a day! I was so impressed with our students and how well they handled the cold weather, and did so with smiles. I am looking forward to joining the Okemo group in the future and am told that they had a wonderful time as well. I was particularly impressed and touched by how much care and attention our older students paid to our younger ones. I saw many students helping each other in myriad ways and was reminded of the power that group experiences such as this can have for students. I can't wait for next week!
Welcome back!

UPCOMING FINANCIAL AID DEADLINES!
As deadlines for submission of the Parent Financial Statement (PFS) and supporting documents draw ever closer, I want to emphasize The Grammar School's ever-increasing desire to be more sustainable. Families applying for financial aid are encouraged to complete the process online. Paper copies of the PFS are available, but keep in mind that it is more expensive for families to submit a paper version and it takes School and Student Service much longer to process.

PUTNEY FOOD SHELF: The fourth graders are collecting non-perishable food items for the month of January. There is a box outside their classroom in addition to the one outside the office. HAPPY NEW YEAR AND THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING A CRITICAL COMMUNITY SERVICE!
FACULTY LUNCHEON - A big THANK YOU to all who cooked, set up, brought items, and cleaned up at the faculty luncheon! A special thank you to Laura Zindel for her mad decorating skills and generosity. I could not be there, so thank you to all who stepped in to put it all together on the day. I saw some pictures, and heard it was wonderful!
Thanks again,
Natalie Thomson
