THE GRAMMAR SCHOOL WEDNESDAY NOTICE

   November 6, 2013

GREETINGS FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

Dear Parents,

I write today to address inclement weather and offer guidance about how TGS will communicate on days when there is a weather related cancellation or schedule change. First, please know that we will make every effort to ensure that our students are safe on the roads this winter. With that in mind, if you are uncomfortable driving on a day when we do have school, we simply ask that you call the front office to let us know that you are keeping your child at home.

We are changing how we will communicate our decisions to cancel or delay the opening of school. We will communicate by an all-school email to parents, a post on the website, and by both radio and television announcements. A list of the various stations is included below. You can expect to receive notification as close to 6:00am as possible via these diverse mediums.

Snow Day Notifications

  • Local radio stations:  WKVT, WKNE, WTSA
  • Local television station: WCAX
  • TGS website: www.thegrammarschool.org
  • Sovernet: www.sovernet.net

As always, if you have any questions about this, feel free to reach out to me directly.

Sincerely,

Dan

Contact Liz Jackson or Tammy Neathawk if you would like to donate food items or your time!

YOUNG WRITERS PROJECT
Save the date! Come join the Young Writers Project at The Grammar School on the evening of Thursday, November 21 for a Podcast Party and Open Mic.Bring a poem or five that you want to read, and we'll have a low-key open mic session to practice, as well as a quiet room for careful recordings.

Your best pieces will be entered for publication on vpr.net and on vtdigger.org. This event is open to the whole community, so please spread the word. Pizza will be served!

If your child is interested in participating, please email Clare Mundell at cemundell@gmail.com.

Too tired to go on a trip? Have no valid passport? Broke? Well, we have a solution for you. Come experience a far away world right here at TGS! Foreign Language Evening is back and on Thursday, November 14, where you can hear Spanish and French without having to cross any borders!

Students in grades 5-8 will perform fairy tales from Europe and abroad, and serve you sweets from France and Spain. Save room for dessert! Performance time is 6:30-8:00 in the theatre space. Students, please arrive 15 minutes early, at 6:15, at the Lower School.

Johanna and Liz

Curious about what goes on in French class? During the first two weeks of November, parents of children in grades K-4 have an invitation to visit! Come be a fly on the wall and see what we do each week. Each class will have something prepared to show parents, but this is primarily time to watch a typical class, and observe as we sing, play games, and use our French.

A special visiting schedule will be posted on the French blog, with days and times for each class. Please refer to the schedule to know which day your class is open.

UPDATE: The Power of Discovery - An After School STEM Program at TGS
We are excited to share an update on The Power of Discovery After School STEM Program at The Grammar School. The Power of Discovery after school STEM program is underway at The Grammar School. Children in grades 2-8 are enjoying their FIRST Lego Robotics Clubs, and The Grammar School Chess Club is getting rave reviews as well! There is still room in the Chess Club (three more spots) if your child would like to join, and a few openings for the Math Olympiads Clubs for Session I.

Thanks to a generous grant in support of The Power of Discovery, we are now able to offer scholarships so that any child who wants to participate in this years after school program will be able to do so. Contact  Suzanne Rubinstein or David Hull for more information.
