THE GRAMMAR SCHOOL WEDNESDAY NOTICE

   October 23, 2013

GREETINGS FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

I want to offer my sincere thanks to our wonderful TGS community for all of the well wishes Courtney, Lila, Oliver and I have recieved in the past week since we welcomed Oliver into our lives. This is a community that truly cares and we are deeply appreciative to be here.

It has been wonderful to see many of you on campus for your conferences, and I look forward to catching up with many more as we finish this shortened week on Thursday. Conferences are an important time for us all to get on the same page about our most important asset, our students, and I hope that you all enjoy learning more about how your children are doing and what is happening in their classes.

At All School Meeting today Charlie Boswell ran a short slide show of various mountain peaks that TGS students have climbed all over New England and beyond to garner interest in our trip to Mt. Monadnock on Saturday. Lila and I will be joining this trip, along with over twenty other TGS students and parents, and I hope you will consider coming along, either on the bus with us, or meeting us there. We have a long tradition of hiking at TGS and this weekend promises to be an enjoyable trip with a supportive group.

Best of luck to our runners in our annual TGS Invitational today. It's a great day to run and I hope to see many of you there today.

Lastly, I wanted to include a reflection on the Medieval Faire in this notice but will have to send that next week, as Tammy is outside my office playing the Jeopardy theme song on her phone.

Sincerely,
Dan

Johanna and Liz

Curious about what goes on in French class? During the first two weeks of November, parents of children in grades K-4 have an invitation to visit! Come be a fly on the wall and see what we do each week. Each class will have something prepared to show parents, but this is primarily time to watch a typical class, and observe as we sing, play games, and use our French.

A special visiting schedule will be posted on the French blog, with days and times for each class. Please refer to the schedule to know which day your class is open.

UPDATE: The Power of Discovery - An After School STEM Program at TGS

We are excited to share an update on The Power of Discovery After School STEM Program at The Grammar School.

The Power of Discovery after school STEM program is underway at The Grammar School.  Junior FIRST Lego's Club met on Monday and the TGS Chess Club is kicking off today!

There are still a few openings for the Chess Club and the Math Olympiads Clubs for Session I and openings for all clubs for Session II!

Thanks to a generous grant in support of The Power of Discovery we are now able to offer scholarships so that any child who wants to participate in this years after school program will be able to do so. Contact Suzanne Rubinstein or David Hull for more information.

Click here for a comprehensive listing of clubs and links to registration forms.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION- It's Box Tops submission time! Please send your Box Tops coupons in with your child or put them in the box in the entrance way. We will be bundling up all the Box Tops on October 24 to get them in by the fall deadline. Once we send in all the Box Tops, our school will receive a check from General Mills in December. Each Box Top coupon is worth 10 cents -- free money for the school! If everyone participates, the money can really add up! This year we're planning to use the money for TGS Athletics.

If you have any questions about the Box Tops program, feel free to contact Clare Mundell, TGS Box Tops Coordinator, at [email protected].
