"Light up the Season" and Spark a Student's Future!

During this season of giving - perhaps in lieu of the office party or the holiday exchange between friends - please consider making a donation to CIS between now and December 31.
Your gift could be the "spark" that will ignite a future of possibilities for our students - a spark that will continue to shine bright long after the holiday season!
If you'd like to make your donation in honor or in memory of friends, family or co-workers, we will send our "Light up the Season" holiday card notifying them of your gift.

Please make your donation and/or order holiday cards by December 15 to ensure holiday delivery!

How will YOU Give this Year?  Giving Tuesday ~ Dec. 2, 2014

Communities In Schools is excited to partner with Share Charlotte and 62 other local nonprofits this year to encourage community support of #GivingTuesdayCLT, which falls on December 2nd this year. This is a local and national effort between now and Tuesday, Dec. 2 to take a step back from the holiday bustle and GIVE to your neighbors in need. Gifts of any size, including "time & talent," are needed and appreciated! Making your donation or commitment to volunteer from now through Dec. 2 will "count" as part of #GivingTuesdayCLT!  Please "give local" on Dec. 2! (or before!)

1st Quarter Celebration at Billingsville Academy!

Billingsville Leadership Academy just celebrated 1st Quarter Attendance and Honor Roll and we wanted to share this photo of a few of our CIS scholars who were honored that day. These seven had Perfect Attendance and/or were on the A/B Honor Roll during the first quarter! They look so proud - and WE are proud of YOU! Keep up the good work!

Building a Bond - 28 Years and Counting
CIS Volunteer Smitty Flynn and former student Daryl McCain

Perhaps math tutoring isn't exactly Smitty Flynn's strong suit, but that didn't stop him from finding a way to connect with former CIS student Daryl McCain, way back in 1986 at J.T. Williams Junior High. The school is now closed, but in 1986 it was where CIS began its first year of operation in Charlotte, with 80 students. One of those students was Daryl McCain, then a 7th grader, who was matched by CIS to Smitty to get help with math. Read More

YOU Have the POWER 2 Give!

Check out our current power2give project, "Another Chance to Dance!" This is a wonderful collaboration with the Latin American Women's Association (LAWA) and a FUN way for students to learn about other cultures and customs. The group dance lessons and performances help build self-confidence and understanding among students from all backgrounds. Thanks for giving our students
