               SHARING THE GOSPEL

                              theme for march, 2013

Greetings!

The Bible is an indispensable resource for everyone who professes to be a Christian, because in it one finds the example of Jesus Christ as He dispels at least three major areas of conflict by relying on God's Word.  The narrative of Jesus' victory in each of the three instances when Satan tried his best to seduce Him demonstrates His reliance on the Word of God to rebuff any and all trials and temptations that came His way.

It is obvious and essential that every one of us, as Christians, regard God's Word as the standard by which our lives, in private or in public, are governed, not because we are still trying to gain points to qualify for entry into the kingdom (that should be our least worry since our salvation was planned before the world began and assured when we believed and accepted Jesus who died on the cross for our sins once and for all, and resurrected to glory), but having been saved we reflect His love for us and share this love and the Good News that goes with it to others.

Jesus shaped His life by following the Scriptures.  Why should we think we need it less than He did?  If we are truly His followers, why should we rely on it less than He did?

It is not enough that we own a Bible: we need to make it our personal sextant to steer and navigate our lives through the Holy Spirit.  "For the Christian intent on navigating a chaotic world successfully, the indispensable tool for life is God's Word, the Bible." Navigating the Storms of Life, (c) 2006 RBC Ministries.

Jesus depicted with a hole in His hand.

"The Bible" miniseries on TV (the History Channel) continues to attract the highest percentage of viewers for that time frame on Sunday evenings, at 8:00 p.m.

The show premiered on Sunday, March 3.  So far the show has depicted dramatizations of certain well-known Bible stories including the story of Cain murdering his brother Abel, the exodus of the nation of Israel from Egypt as it left captivity and many others.

The miniseries does not attempt to examine the historicity of the bible but is rather a docu-drama based on popular bible stories.  It is interesting to note that it has attracted the highest percentage of viewers for prime time on Sundays.  There are other time slots on Sunday when the series is shown.  Please check your local listings.

Signs and Wonders Today

-
"The whole assembly became silent as they listened to Barnabas and Paul telling about the miraculous signs and wonders God had done among the Gentiles through them." - Acts 15:12
-
"I was a pastor for 19 years before I went into business," said the man sitting across the table from me as we were sharing lunch together. What led him from being a pastor to a businessman was both a move of God and an attack from the enemy.
-
"I was a pastor of a particular denomination that did not embrace all of God's Word. It was a time in my life when I was experiencing many physical problems. I was on the verge of being admitted to the hospital. I had been seeking God about whether He was truly a God of healing and whether His Word was applicable in all areas of life as it was in the early Church. I was to go into the hospital the next day. That night I cried out to the Lord. I confronted God about His Word. I asked Him if He still did miracles today. Just then, I turned on my TV and saw an evangelist preaching. At that very moment, he stopped preaching, looked into the TV camera, and said these words: 'There is a man in the viewing audience who has been a pastor for many years and is struggling to know whether God heals today. His own denomination does not believe He does. [He even named his denomination.] God is healing you right now to demonstrate to you that His healing is for today, and you are to know that His Word is true for today just like it was for the early Church.' "
-
My friend was shocked. The TV evangelist could not have described him more accurately if he had been sitting in the same living room with him. God healed him that very night. He was not admitted to the hospital. He was forced to go before his church and witness to God's power in his life. He was soon fired as pastor of this church, and this is what led him into business.
-
So often when we experience God in greater and deeper ways, the persecution comes not from the world, but from those who are closest to us. The religious community persecuted Jesus. He was betrayed by one of His own disciples. However, we must realize this betrayal was necessary for God to accomplish His work through Jesus.
-
God will bring each of us to a crisis of faith to test what we really believe. For my friend, he had to experience God in a new way. Then he had to be tested in that belief to the point of losing his job.
-
Have you experienced God in all of your life? Are there areas in which you believe God does not operate today? Before you discount God, seek Him with a whole heart. You might be surprised at what you will find.

Meditation

Dear Father in Heaven, today I lift up families to You. There are so many distractions in life. People get sidetracked by their own desires, the quest for more, what others think, trying to 'climb the ladder' of success, getting involved in activities and more activities, working too hard, illness, challenges and problems, and other things.

We often become consumed with all of these and distracted from what is most important. God, thank You that every person spending this time with You right now will see the need to make time for family, to acknowledge and show love for their loved ones, to prioritize their lives and obligations, to focus on what Jesus would do. Thank You that You change us so that we do not become distracted by everything else.

Thank You for letting us put You first, our families next, and everyone and everything else after. Thank You for guiding us, for giving us wisdom, and for encouraging us this day and in the days ahead. In Jesus' name we come to You and thank You, amen.
