Gospel Life Community-Church Without Walls
Gospel Life: A Loving Community
Greetings!

Our boundless thankfulness goes to our God because it is truly a privilege to be members of His family.  All we can do is to ask the Holy Spirit to move in a powerful way to bring us to a realization that each of us is an important part of the body of Christ. Working together as believers to lift up His name is a certain indication that we are continuing to learn more and more about becoming His disciples.

There is much joy when believers fellowship together with love being the defining characteristic of that fellowship. It is our hope that this kind of spirit is what supervenes in each small group gathering that meets at various times and places through the week.

As we make ourselves available to God, He is ready and willing to move within us and to take us to places we can only imagine.

Join A Small Group

We have mentioned it often in the last few issues of the newsletter: join a small group.  Or host one.  Or lead one.

A human body stays healthy only as it is properly nourished, fed and nurtured.  There is no difference when we're talking about our spiritual life.  It needs to be properly taken care of and carefully supplemented periodically.

Becoming a member of a small group fellowship promotes spiritual health, builds up confidence and develops a strong sense of belonging among themselves.   Be a part of a small group.  You will not regret it!

Pastor Hansel
Loving Your Community

Pastor Hansel gave another thought-provoking sermon on Saturday evening to wrap up February's theme:  a Loving Community.

He started off by defining "church" in the English context, and
ekklesia, its Greek counterpart. The actual meanings appear to be opposites. But to love your community starts with being a part of the church, he says.

To grow spiritually, however, one finds it in church groups, that's why attendance at worship meetings is important. This is the place to get encouragement from each other, in the larger church group, and better yet, in small groups where people are better able to interact with each other.

Pastor Hansel mentioned something that really made sense.  He said that you can't really "grow" if you're not around believers.  How could you love others when you're not around them? he asked. That's why corporate worship is important.

When people of faith devote themselves to each other in fellowship, that is the result of people growing in Christ.  And when the church does what Jesus did it results in the greatest joy of sharing Him with those who do not know Him. A changed life is one of the most powerful things that could happen, but this change cannot happen without the Holy Spirit.

The highlight of his message is centered on his statement  that we, as believers, should not think that we are on this earth to serve and love others out of obligation or tradition, but that we are here to echo His glory, to magnify His name and because God loved us first, we must echo Him in our lives.
Kingdom Life - Experience It

Every other Sunday morning, a lecture/workshop is held at the GLC office.  Yesterday was no exception.  Another session learning about practical aspects of the Christian life was "experienced" by those who attended.

Two weeks previously, the attendees learned how to get rid of the "baggage" in one's life.  Yesterday they learned how to pick up "luggage."

As the bible teaches, one must be able to love oneself to be able to love God to the next level. When a person has a low self-view, he or she loves the neighbor the same way, with a low self-view.

A powerful illustration used by Pastor Hansel, who leads this workshop, is the "missing tile syndrome."  Just like when there's a missing ceiling tile the focus seems to be on that missing tile, people have a tendency to focus on what's missing from their lives rather on the "tiles" that they have.

The importance of loving self unconditionally was pointed out. The pain most people have results from being so critical of themselves.

God loves you 100% no matter what! Always love God back with the same love He gives you.  You can only love Him as much as you love yourself.

The exercise:  participants were asked to write down on a piece of paper the following statement and to fill the blank at the end. Those who cared to share what they wrote  stepped up to the front and read out loud what they wrote.  The statement was: "I am awesome because God thinks I am good at ____________________.

Meditation

Dear Father in Heaven, thank You for filling me with your goodness and allowing me to learn what Your Word says so that I can make the right choices.  Let me live according to the conviction that the Holy Spirit impresses on me rather than being tossed by waves of doubt and indecision.

Thank You for rooting me in Your Word so that I may be called one of your oaks of righteousness. In Your name I pray. Amen.
