Recent Changes - We're Proactive |
|
Change is always exciting! For Gospel Life Community, it is! Some may have a jaundiced look at change, with angst and misgivings, but for us change is progress.
We have entered a "new season" in our colorful and miraculous journey. Ours is to wait upon the Lord to see and to expect what's next. The provisions He had for us since our beginnings over a decade ago have been nothing but providential miracles. To this day, we continue to be awed by all the experiences we've been through and He's not done with us yet.
It is only as we forget what God has done for us and continues to do for us that we can lose sight of our eternal destiny. We can't worry, though, because He has assured each one of us whom He has saved that He will never let us go! What an inspiring confirmation that His boundless love for His children has no end!
The Church Staff |
It's barely over a week before our next monthly fund-raising fellowship dinner. It will be on Saturday, February 16, at 7:30 p.m. at the Minato Japanese Seafood Buffet restaurant.
We're making it our church's Valentine's Day outing, open to all of you loving people out there! This is a new venue for us and Johnny & Nellie Chua have made the necessary arrangements for our group. Funds will still be raised from this event.
Just a reminder: let's encourage our youth and young adults to join us. Parents who'd like to bring their child or children along will get a large discount for the kids. The same thing applies to our young people.
The restaurant is located at 318 S. California Avenue, West Covina 91790 at the West Covina Westfield Shopping Mall.
Invite family members, friends and those who attend your small group or bible study group who do not otherwise attend church at Gospel Life.

February Theme: A Loving Community |
Gospel Life Community's theme for this month is the "Loving Community." This is to re-emphasize that part of our mission statement which says that we are "to be a loving community that empowers people to realize their divine destiny of living the Christ-centered lifestyle."
Just like a tree grows with constant nurturing, so does the outflow of love from each believer whose source of love is none other than Jesus.
Our God is so filled with love that He would not want to see any of us go astray. We are told that we could not imagine what He does for us and prepares for us in the heavenly realm. We can only see all these things with our own eyes when He takes us on that space journey to the home He has prepared for all of His children. |
More small groups are forming shortly with perhaps different target audiences. Pastor Hansel will soon begin a "twenty something" group (he plans to do it beginning this coming Sunday evening). A women's small group will be started on the 20th (Wednesday evening, after the "Awakening" service) by Pastor Joannie and Tessa.
Eunice plans to start another one, the Glendale Thursday group plans to start yet another, and others are soon to follow.
At the Core Group meeting last Saturday, we set a goal of doubling up on the eight groups that are currently meeting. Pastor Tony remarked at our staff meeting today that the goal we set is a man-made goal and that we should let the Holy Spirit shoot that number up to thirty, maybe even more!
And yes, there are many of you out there who are able to either host or lead a small group. And these groups do not necessarily have to be a teaching group for bible studies. They could be fellowship or support groups, or specific ministry groups. It is also practical to think that nurture groups can become teaching groups, and vice-versa.
Pastor Hansel says, "Don't get boxed in by your idea of what a small group is." If a group decides on a "hiking ministry" then that's their small group. The important thing is that we develop relational activities that bring us closer to God and to each other.
So, what small group do you want to form or be a part of? Let everyone become an active member of a small group fellowship. The dividends would be hard to quantify. |

Starting Over
The brother in humble circumstances ought to take pride in his high position. - James 1:9 - Do you find yourself in humble circumstances? If so, James tells us that we are to take pride in this "high" position. These two things would seem to be an oxymoron. Most of us would not consider humble circumstances a high position. Successful business tells us that being on top means being wealthy, attaining favor and status, or having power to influence. However, Jesus influenced not from power, but from weakness. - J.C. Penney is a name synonymous with department store. He first launched his chain of "The Golden Rule" stores in 1907. In 1910 his first wife died. Three years later, he incorporated as the J.C. Penney company. In 1923 his second wife died giving birth to his son. In 1929 the stock market crashed and he lost $40 million. - By 1932, he had to sell out to satisfy...creditors. This left [Penney] virtually broke. ...Crushed in spirit from his loss and his health suddenly failing, Penney wound up in a Battle Creek, Michigan sanitarium. One morning he heard the distant singing of employees who gathered to start the day with God: Be not dismayed, whate'er betide, God will take care of you.... Penney followed the music to its source and slipped into a back row. He left a short time later a changed man, his health and spirit renewed, and ready to start the long climb back at age fifty-six. - By 1951 there was a J.C. Penney store in every state, and for the first time sales surpassed $1 billion a year. [John Woodbridge, ed., More Than Conquerors (Chicago, Illinois: Moody Press, 1992), 340-343.] The success of J.C. Penney can be traced to God's mercy in his life to bring him out of his humble circumstance. - Do you find yourself in a humble circumstance? God is the only one who can help you see your humble circumstance from His viewpoint-a high position. It is a high position because of what God is going to teach you in this place. He does not intend for you to stay there; it is merely a stopping place to learn some important things you would not learn otherwise. Press into God and trust Him for the outcome to your circumstances. - (Today God Is First (TGIF) devotional message, Copyright by Os Hillman, Marketplace Leaders.) |

Dear God, thank You for making me feel Your presence in my life in a greater way. I want more of You, to draw closer to You. So, thank You for keeping my priorities straight, to have my sight focused on You and my life to revolve around You.
Thank You for helping me to balance my life--my work, church, family, friends, ministry time, and devotional time with You, and for giving me wisdom and strength to do what is right in all that You would have me do.
And I thank You, God, for guiding me and blessing me in so many ways, and for working in me to do Your good will. In Jesus' name I pray and praise you. Amen. |
