Greetings!

How do you relate to hard times?  Here's a few things to remember.

First, the Lord is in control.  The timing and intensity of your trial is in His hands and He has a specific purpose for allowing it.  It could yield something in you that you lack at present.

Next, when you trust God with a joyful attitude, even adversity could be a benefit to you. In doing so, Christ is able to demonstrate His ability to sustain you when you are under great pressure.

Last, and best of all, Jesus walks with you every step that you take and because the Holy Spirit lives in you, you are enabled to come out of your difficult time victorious!

It's Not About Comfort

That's the topic for this coming Saturday's Good News Hour, part of Pastor John's series: "The Gospel: What It Is Not About." The series which began in early December will culminate on the last Saturday of this month, for a total of eight sermons about what the gospel is not.

Each sermon has brought home the importance of our personal relationship and intimacy with Jesus and His grace that covers all of His children without reservation.

Coffee, anyone?

If you come early enough, like as early as 4:oo p.m. on Saturday afternoons before church service, you could have a leisurely cup of coffee, and perhaps cookies, before church starts at 5:00 p.m.  If you come with only a couple of minutes to spare before church begins, don't expect coffee to be waiting for you, as the coffee service folds down at 4:45 p.m.

No, there may not be a croissant as pictured in this block. This is a disclaimer, since we don't want to hear about charges of false advertising. :-)  But come and enjoy a cup of coffee, or two.   It might keep you a little bit more alert while the announcements are being made.

Have you been to Tessa's blog?  It's a site that promotes the positive and debunks the negative.  It's a blog for women, by a woman. (It's good reading for men, too.)

Here's what Tessa says about her presence in the internet:

Objective:  To encourage women to live the life they were ordained to live.

Summary:  In Lion's Den, we learned that our dreams and passions were given to us by God to live an abundant life and more importantly to destroy the works of the enemy.  This terrifies the enemy so he tries to stop us by shackling us to lies that tell us we are ineffective, weak, unworthy etc., etc.  I learned that one of my passions is to destroy the lies that people, especially women, have accepted that have held us in bondage, rendering us unable to fulfill our destiny.  I do this by encouraging women to recognize their identity to become all that they were meant to be.

My main target is women of all walks of life and not just believers, and so the language I use is not Christian-ese.  My hope is to destroy the works of the enemy for believers and non-believers alike!

Leadership Board Meeting

Another one?  Didn't we just have one last Saturday?  No, that was a Core Group meeting!

See our banner headline at the very top of this newsletter, just below the GLC logo?  Yeah, that's what were talking about.

It's scheduled for this coming Saturday, at The Office, beginning at 2:00 p.m. We will talk about our church programs for this year, and perhaps things that affect our church programs, what they might be, or how we would do things.  Have a brainstorming session with yourself and bring your ideas with you to the meeting.

Who are on the leadership board anyway?  The elders (includes the pastoral staff), coordinators of the various church ministries (evangelism, discipleship, prophetic/prayer, worship, fellowship, pastoral, Pilipino seniors, community outreach, marketplace, life development, students/youth, others) and team managers (administrator, legal officer/corporation secretary, CFO, property manager, etc.).

You'll say, that's just about everybody!   Well, almost. But we hold open meetings anyway. So, there. What's important is that the actual board members are there. So if the description above fits you, you're in the group! Comprende?

Changing Our Paradigm of Experience

"So Moses thought, 'I will go over and see this strange sight-why the bush does not burn up.'" Exodus 3:3
-

Have you ever heard someone say, "God doesn't work that way? He would never do that." Well, there are times when God chooses to confound the foolish in order to change our paradigm of experience. Moses had never seen a bush that burned but did not burn up. It got his attention and it drew him to God.

-

When Jesus appeared on the water in the middle of the night during a storm, the disciples exclaimed, "It's a ghost!" They had never seen a man walk on water. This led to a great miracle-Peter walked on the water, too. When Jesus asked Peter to catch a fish and get the coin from its mouth to pay their taxes, you can imagine what Peter must have thought about those instructions. When Moses got to the Red Sea, he ran out of options. God had an unexpected solution to the Israelites' problem-He parted the Red Sea to demonstrate His power and allow the people of Israel to cross over to flee the Egyptian army.

-

Each of these new paradigms was a stepping-stone of an encounter with God so that the individual would experience God in a new way. God used these times to enforce the principle that His ways are not our ways. Whenever we try to predict that God will act in a certain way, He changes the paradigm to keep us from becoming our own little gods.

Have you ever been guilty of judging someone for an experience they've had that you've never had? Did you dismiss it as extreme or something not of God? God is in the business of changing our paradigm from no personal experiences to God-experiences. However, if you operate on a level of rigid logic, you may never have the privilege of having the God-experiences. Keep your heart free to experience new paradigms with God today.

Pastor Hansel
Kingdom Life

There was a good attendance at the first "Kingdom Life" seminar or workshop conducted by Pastor Hansel and staff last Sunday morning. Post-session comments are positive.

"Jesus not only did what was possible but he did what was physically impossible.  He ministered through the power of the Holy Spirit through signs and wonders.  This is the true 'eternal life' The Kingdom of God has to offer.

"The Kingdom Life class fills that need by providing a fun, safe, environment that participants can explore what God has for their own lives.  They will learn how to grow exponentially, overcome fear, release restrictive baggage, and operate supernaturally though the Holy Spirit's leading.

"The classes are free and run every 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month at the new office.  These are much like the classes in the Lion's Den School but much more accessible and easier.  Think of it as Lion's Den Lite.  These classes highlight where God is leading each person at Gospel Life - to become more like His son Jesus Christ."

The quote above from Pastor Hansel provides a tiny glimpse of what the "Kingdom Lifestyle" workshop is about.  You don't have to have been at the first session to attend subsequent sessions. You can attend and learn and/or share at your pace.

Since we got started this month on the 3rd Sunday, the next workshop is on the 5th Sunday, January 27th.  In the following months the 2d and 4th Sunday sessions will be followed.

"Dear God, I worship You and lift up my praise to You, my Creator and Sustainer. Thank you for showing me the things that bind me on this earth and for opening my eyes that I may always be mindful of what may hold me in bondage.

"Thank You for allowing me to avoid the things I should and for steering me clear of hazards and to draw strength from Your Holy Spirit. Thank You for breaking me free and letting me experience total freedom in You.

"Thank you, my gracious God. In the name of my Savior I pray. Amen."
