Are Our Families Connected to God?

Greetings!

-

Prayer is said to be the link that brings humankind closer to God.  Do we pray that we have a healthy balance of family time, church commitments and a personal communion with our Father? Do we ask Him to allow us to bear fruit or to fulfill His specific purpose for us.  Do we intercede for members of our family so that each one will give themselves over fully to God and in unity to accomplish His will for us?

These are perhaps seemingly redundant questions that we hear often enough, but are we paying attention? Do we do anything about them in terms of really understanding them and doing what we need to do?

No, we are not doing these to merit heaven because that is already ours as part of our eternal destiny when we accepted Jesus as Lord and Master of our lives. Our personal growth relies upon our intimacy with Him, allowing the Holy Spirit to work in us and through us to do His will.

AUTHENTIC MEXICAN

A bunch of satisfied customers emerged from the Fonda Don Chon Restaurant in Covina after their first foray into an "authentic Mexican" eatery as a group.

The monthly fund-raising fellowship dinner has become a regular event for Gospel Life Community and has been an extra source of funds for non-budgeted projects of the church.

Attendance varies from over a hundred to about fifteen.  Nevertheless, the fun runs high among those who attend.  We have to thank Johnny and Nellie Chua for spearheading this project every month.  It is they who go to the restaurants to eyeball what they have and taste test whenever indicated.  And then they negotiate the terms so that the church keeps approximately fifty per cent of the ticket cost.

Make sure to join next month.  It's almost always on the third Tuesday evening of every month.

CORE GROUP

An important matter will be discussed at the Core Group meeting scheduled for this coming Sunday at 2 p.m.

Your input and ideas are important as we make step by step decisions related to our fiscal obligations and responsibilities. Let us all be serious participants in the operational and strategic planning for Gospel Life Community.

As we prepare for this meeting let everyone prayerfully ask of our Heavenly Father wisdom to make analytical assessments of things that are brought to our knowledge and attention, as well as guidance and direction as to the paths we must take.

Core Group, you know who you are, and you know the drill!

WHAT YOU MAY HAVE MISSED

If you weren't in church last Sunday, you would have missed Pastor Tony Luciano's sermon on the "Postmodern Marriage."  Several attendees remarked how well he presented the subject matter which helped in their understanding of what goes on in today's marriages.

Taking the spiritual aspect of marriage as designed by God and relying completely on the power of the Holy Spirit, marriages today can outlast the traditional statistic of about a third of marriages ending in divorce, with no significant difference between those who are born-again Christians and the non born-again, he said.  Postmodernism has influenced just about every aspect of our culture today.

Pastor Tony left us a sweet taste of marriage from the bible's Song of Solomon, especially in chapters 5-7. You may want to read the entire book in one sitting, as it is King Solomon's description of their love for each other.

Effective Leadership

"And when the Israelites saw the great power the Lord displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord and put their trust in Him and in Moses His servant." - Exodus 14:31

What makes an effective Christian leader today? Is it charisma? Is it ability? Is it communication and oratory skills? God's view of an effective leader has nothing to do with these qualities. They may be a part of an effective leader. However, the core attribute of a Christian leader is his integrity with God and his obedience to follow Him. When this happens, God manifests His power in and through that leader. Moses was effective because he was willing to obey the commands God gave him. When Moses did this, God manifested His presence in him. The result was that people followed. They followed because they saw God working in and through the man. They saw that this man was worthy of following because God's anointing was on him.

-

When people see the Lord's power manifested in your life, they will have a healthy fear of the Lord. They will look at you and say, "This person has something I don't have that is worthy of more investigation." Your challenge is to seek the Lord with a whole heart, resulting in God's power being manifested in the daily activities of your life. When this happens, you can expect others to be drawn to what they see in you. The problem with many Christians today is that non-Christians see nothing different about the way they live to motivate the unsaved to desire their faith.

-

What makes you different from your neighbor? Is your experience with God noticeably different from that of the man next door? If you're not experiencing regular encounters with God, it's time to ask why not. We don't live day-to-day for the next spiritual experience, but we should see by-products of a life centered in God that is reflected in fruit from His presence in our lives.

Meditation
Dear Heavenly Father, I come to You today with a grateful heart. Thank you for being with me through the things I face each and every day.

I pray for the people around the world whose lives have been turned upside down by wars, famine, and natural disaster. I pray for peace within; for the souls of those who have seen how helpless they are. Thank You for showing them Your power, might, and love through it all.

May every Christian and every act of kindness point people to You, demonstrate Your hope, and show them Your glory. In the name of our Maker and Sustainer I pray. Amen
