DUST AND ASHES
Lent begins...
On this journey you will take with you the dust and ashes of your past that have formed you into who you are today.
...You have the dust of the playground of your childhood that helped teach you right from wrong; trust and fairness and friendship.
...You will take the dust from window sills you've looked out of, dresser tops of secrets, closets of clothes that were favorites, basements of darkness and attics of treasures.
...You will take the dust from underneath the beds you've slept in and the dreams you've experienced some of which have come true.
...You will take the dust of the erasers off chalkboards and pencils of words spoken or placed in to verse and conversations that you wished were left unspoken.
...You will take the ashes of campfires at church camps where you found God in nature and nurture from counselors and new friends and the beauty of Gods abundance that created you.
...You've been smudged by ashes of hurt, betrayal, and disappointment from those in your past you trusted and believed in.
...You will take on this 40 day journey the ashes from the hearth of love from your family of origin for without those experiences you wouldn't have grown so strong or as wise.
...So now may the seeds of your soul find a safe mixture of dust and ashes of your past to bury you deep enough these days so that new life might grow now from your roots.
......Roots that will bear fruit in abundance these 40 days and well on into your New Life this Easter and throughout your life!
Enjoy your journey-
Rev. Rick Pittenger

READY AND WAITING!We're ready and waiting for you to register for our 2013 summer camps. Brochures have been sent to the churches and to all former campers. In addition we have a new interactive camping website ( www.dakcamps.org) that provides the ability to sort camps by age, date, and/or site. You will find the welcome letter for each camp with all the information and forms you need located by each camp, just one click away. We are so excited about our new website and believe it will be much more user friendly. However, with any new site there are sometimes hiccups along the way so please let us know if something isn't working quite right or could be tweaked to be even better. Your input is appreciated. We are now using Trak1 to perform our background checks. Volunteers that register online will be directed right to the Trak1 website to complete the disclosure form so there is no delay in getting the background check started. Summer is just around the corner. Invite your friends to join you at camp. We'll see you there! Becky Holten, Director Camping and Youth Ministries

THE WAY: 2013 LENTEN VIDEO SERIES
The Dakotas Conference presents a weekly video series for Lent featuring Bishop Bruce R. Ough and members of the Dakotas Conference Cabinet. A 5 minute video will be available each week for churches and individuals to use throughout Lent. The videos will be based on Rev. Adam Hamilton's book The Way: Walking in the Footsteps of Jesus. Videos will be posted on the Dakotas Conference website , You Tube and Vimeo. Here is a description of The Way: Travel with Adam Hamilton as he retraces the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. Once again, Hamilton approaches his subject matter with thoughtfulness and wisdom, just as he did with Jesus' crucifixion in 24 Hours That Changed the World and with Jesus' birth in The Journey. Using historical information, archaeological data, and stories of the faith, Hamilton follows in the footsteps of Jesus from his baptism to the temptations to the heart of his ministry, including the people he loved, the parables he taught, the enemies he made, and the healing he brought.

SIGN UP FOR SIDEWALK SONDAY SCHOOL
It's time again to think about Sidewalk Sunday School (SWSS). The program is a fast paced Vacation Bible School experience for children of all ages.
There is no charge for SWSS and it is available to churches across the Dakotas. The SWSS team consists of two to three high-energy people that will guide your church shepherds through this 4-day program. Churches are asked to sponsor the program by hosting in a local park and inviting children from throughout your community.
This is a great opportunity to have a children's outreach program in your area. If you think that you would like to host the SWSS program, notify Mike and Libby Flowers via email at Childharvest@msn.com. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call them at 701-799-1174.
