Sometimes, our only recourse is to go to the very heart of our faith:  trust in God and rely upon our Creator to turn hearts of stone into hearts that love; to raise the forlorn out of despair and onto the heights of joy and peace; to reassure us in the promise that through Jesus' death, the Creator now may welcome the departed to their eternal rest in Paradise.  It is what our faith teaches us.  And still, in times like these, what is so fundamental and basic can be so foreign and distant.  Hate will do this.  Anger will do this.  Still, love is more powerful...always has been, is now and will be forever.  Love conquers all.

The past several days have found me confounded and frustrated.  I grieve because yet again, our nation encounters hatred in such a horrific manner.  Collectively, we are stunned.  Individually, we seek others who search for strength, for the support and succor we desperately desire.   We have cried a river of tears.  Prayer has been both what I breathe in and exhale; exhorting God to calm my anger and to forgive, yet again, the source of such vile and vicious hatred.

What has been a beacon of strength is Psalm 62: 5-8, a personal favorite and a prayer that speaks to the very heart of what I seek and desire.

"Find rest, O my soul, in God alone;
My hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation;
He is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
My salvation and my honor depend on God;
He is my mighty rock, my refuge.
Trust in him at all times, O people;
Pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge."

The events in Orlando, the failure of our nation's elected officials to respond appropriately and in accordance with what 85% of the country desires; that is, laws that ban such killing weapons and other practical legislation brings me another wave of righteous indignation.  It is not my desire to respond in any political manner.  I respect and honor the separation of Church and State.  Yet, perhaps it is time louder voices are heard and the views and opinions of faith leaders of all denominations are made public and visible.  To simply grieve this event is not enough.  To symbolically wring our hands in despair, waiting for the inevitable next mass shooting of innocent citizens will not do.  As a nation and as a Church, national and local, we must raise such a holy noise that will help usher a change in how our nation both upholds the Constitution yet protects and defends the rights of all people to live in peace and free from such senseless violence.

The battle is daunting.  For God's sake, a Christian minister spoke to his congregation that this tragedy was "a good thing" because those who were killed in Orlando (LGBT) needed to be killed.  Not only is this horrifically unchristian, unethical and  utterly impossible to comprehend, they reach an even lower depth of humanity I thought impossible to descend upon.  Hate and ignorance: a most deadly combination.  Sadly, we are not at a loss of either.

And yet still, in spite of it all...

LOVE WILL CONQUER THE HATE
LOVE WILL CONQUER THE IGNORANCE
LOVE WILL CONQUER ALL

My beloved sisters and brothers, thank you for allowing me to vent.  It is in this breathing in of faith and hope and in the exhaling of prayer that I wish to share my eternal and uncompromising trust in our God...the God of Abraham, Issac, Jacob, Mohammad, Jesus, Mary, Joseph, Nicholas, Bede, Mary Magdalene, Patrick, Joseph, the Holy Innocents, Luke, Henry VIII, Thomas Tallis, Martin Wren, William Shakespeare, Thomas Becket,  George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, Archbishop Justin Welby, Pope Francis, Dalai Lama, Queen Elizabeth, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Vladimir Putin, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Saud, Donald Trump, you, me and all of us.  Our God is a Mighty God.  Let God breath new life and a renewed commitment into our hearts and as a people made new, let us restore unity, harmony and a new world order where peace is the norm, now and always.

Amen.

-Manny

May The Dearly Departed Rest In Peace
And Light Perpetual Shine Upon Them.  Amen.
"Gracious God,
nothing in death or life,
nothing in the world as it is,
nothing in the world as it shall be,
nothing in all creation
can separate us from Your love.
Jesus commended His spirit into Your hands at His last hour.
Into those same hands we now commend your servants,
that dying to the world and cleansed from sin,
death may be for them the gate to life
and to eternal fellowship with You;
through the same Jesus Christ our Lord."
Amen.

Church Assessment Tool  (C.A.T.)
Help Us Grow St. Nicholas Church Into the Future
We all love St. Nicholas Church.  It is our spiritual home and a center of ministerial activities that benefits not just us but so many, many others.

Help us grow our church as we prepare for the future.  We ask all members to please complete the Church Assessment Tool (C.A.T.) survey that everyone has received.  It takes about thirty (30) minutes, it is confidential and of course, most appreciated and greatly needed.

If you have any questions, concerns or are having problems, please contact Hal at hstratton@strattery.com for assistance and additional directions.

God bless one and all and thank you, everyone, for helping us help our church.
Start Saving Clean Newspaper and Bags...
We'll Need These For St. Nick's Knacks Rummage Sale
rs 1 In a few weeks, Holy Innocent's Hall will be converted into a huge, "Blue Light Special" sales destination, filled with goodies galore.  But, we need clean newspaper for wrapping items as well as plastic or paper bags, too.

Please bring in your old newspapers, plastic and paper bags.  There will be a box near Manny's office where these items can be placed.

Let's make this year's sale even better than last year...and we can do it, too.
Little Boots Rodeo This Weekend...
Giddy-Up and Join Us!
Little Boots Rodeo Ah yes, summer fun.  At St. Nicholas, we have our footprint firmly planted in Village events.

On June 25 and 26, Saturday and Sunday, we'll get busy with Little Boots Rodeo activities, once again staffing the Pennies in the Corn booth.  And, I've been told, our booth is even bigger, deeper and more treasures are buried in all that corn.  Volunteers needed to staff this booth both days.

Please sign up and pitch in.  Let's make sure the Village and all visitors know that St. Nicholas is here, alive and well.

Shout Outs
To ALL who marched, waved long and lovingly, rolled along and passed out St. Nicholas Frisbees to the multitude of spectators along the Village Parade route.  What a wonderful showing...true, blue St. Nicholas pride!

To Steve Raftery who proclaimed and preached the Gospel last weekend.  Your words inspire and bring home a blessed message.

To the Order of St. Luke who shared their sacred ministry with all who came and sought God's special grace in this Sacrament.  We are all the better through your ministry.
Prayer Requests
The Community of St. Nicholas is praying
aj1 For all fathers:  Pray that the Lord bless these wonderful men with the Creator's grace and peace as we celebrate the many wonders they share with us, here on earth and from their heavenly home.  Wishing all dads a Happy Father's Day!

For Pastor Tim Manwell of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church and his wife Stacey who were involved in a very serious car accident.  Fortunately, Stacey is back home with her children.  However, Tim remains in an Ohio hospital with numerous critical injuries.  Pray Pastor Tim regains full health, with no complications and is home to his family and faith community very soon.

For Bud Stratton, father of our Hal Stratton who recently underwent some medical procedures.  Pray Bud recover fully and is back to his active self in not time at all.

For Fr. Manny.

For peace, unity and a universal embrace of all God's people, one to another as we recognize that we are all one family, rooted in the Creator.

For all students now out for summer vacation:  Pray they are occupied with activities and work that will keep them safe and secure.

For all our youngsters who are attending summer camps:  Pray they are safe and enjoy their time away.  Enjoy and know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

For our Muslim sisters and brothers who this month celebrate Ramadan:  Pray that as they fast, they gain a greater wisdom and inner peace made gift to all by our One, True God.

For Melissa, stepdaughter to our Cyndi DeBock.  Melissa is fighting metastatic cancer which has returned at the age of 27.  Her sister-in-law has set up a GoFundMe page to help with medical expenses.  Click here if you'd like to donate.

For all our St. Nicholas community members who are under the weather and in need of healing and prayers:  may they find peace and be blessed with sound and better health:  Jessica Tamaski, Paul Hallman, Patrick Hogan, Anna Marie, Melissa Beck, Michelle Miller, Eloy Madrigal,  Courtney Marsh, Amanda and Alex, Ruth, Grandma Shirley, Phyllis Whitmer, Leon Stiles, Cora Lopez, Eddie and Pat Albers, Dick McQuade, Rosario de Vazquez, Rosarini Vazquez, Nora Pun, Carolyn Drolen, Cathy, Mindy Golden, Elaine and Barry Malas, Susan Lackey, Marcia Kizior, Kesha, Eunice Dohra, Bernie, Ron, Dale Rickey, Grant MacDonald, Larry McQuade, and any one else in need of our continued prayers and well wishes.
