Easter

"Bring flowers to strew His way, Yea, sing, make holiday; Bid young lambs leap, And earth laugh after sleep.

For now He cometh forth Winter flies to the north, Folds wings and cries Amid the bergs and ice.

Yea, Death, great Death is dead, And Life reigns in his stead; Cometh the Athlete New from dead Death's defeat.

Cometh the Wrestler, But Death he makes no stir, Utterly spent and done, And all his kingdom gone."

Katherine Tynan
(An Irish poet, born January 23, 1861 and reunited with Christ on April 2, 1931)

Easter lillies

Easter is, for we who call ourselves Christian, the high point of the church year.  It is THE feast of all feasts.  It is the glorious achievements of Christ Jesus our Lord, with the guidance of God the Creator and the strengthening support of the Holy Spirit that provided for us today, those who preceded us and those who are to come after our earthly days have ended the assurance of a place in Paradise.  The Kingdom of Heaven awaits us.  Our place has been assured.  Let us rejoice.

Jesus Christ is alive.  He has broken the chains of death and sin has been conquered.  Let us rejoice and be glad.

To my sisters and brothers, the good and loving people of St. Nicholas Church, may the full and lasting peace of the triumphant Christ Jesus fill our hearts and minds with His enduring and overwhelming love and peace.

Happy Easter to one and all.
Let us rejoice and be glad, Alleluia.

Sign Up for Movable Feast...
Good food, great people and friendly conversation
food 1
Movable Feast is both social and business.  We gather as friends and church family, to enjoy time together as we share a common meal.  It is also "business," as we will discuss matters that are relevant to our church, discuss particular questions that pertain to our current condition and our hopes for the future.

We've added a new twist:  the host will provide the entree while the others will bring a side dish to share.  This makes the whole affair even easier!  If you are unable to host at your home...fear not!  The kitchen and Hall at St. Nicholas are always available on Friday nights.

Prayer Requests
The Community of St. Nicholas is praying
For the people of the world for whom the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is not easily celebrated, because of war, famine, pestilence and strife:  Pray the Risen Lord raise these people up and they overcome that which stifles their growth, spiritually, emotionally and physically.

For Pat Kalicki: Pray she continues to heal and recover from her surgery and is able to get back to her normal, active life style.

For the people of the world who must endure violence on a daily basis:  Pray that peace become the enduring norm and hatred against one another the seldom seen exception.

For farmers in this country who work at providing the crops that feed this nation and the world:  Pray that the ground is fertile and the yield come later this summer is full and vibrant.

For those who are looking for gainful employment, a career that will afford them both happiness and security.

For the homeless, those who are without adequate food and sufficient necessities: Pray that all receive that which they need and require to live happy, healthy and productive lives.

For all our St. Nicholas community members who are under the weather and in need of healing and prayers:  may they find peace and be blessed with sound and better health:  Rosario de Vazquez, Rosarini Vazquez, Nora Pun, Carolyn Drolen, Mindy Golden, Tess Setchell, Julie Suess, Katie, Elaine and Barry Malas, Susan Lackey, Marcia Kizior, Kesha, Eunice Dohra, Bernie, Ron, Dale Rickey Grant MacDonald, and any one else in need of our continued prayers and well wishes.

*** "For my family and my sobriety.  Thank you, Lord."
"For my sobriety and faith in God; that both remain strong."

Please let Fr. Manny know the current condition of those for whom we are praying and if we wish to keep their names on the prayer list.  Thank you.

Shout Outs
To our music director Mary Fletcher-Gomez and our amazing choir members:  Katie Black, Jessi Lindberg, Jennifer Brundige, Autumn Latus, Ginny Gibbs, Laura Lampe, Holly Mohr, Douglas VanHouten, Brandon Garcia, Michael Scafidi, Richard Day, Adam Mildreth and our guest trumpeter and good friend Alex Schwarz, all of whom gave their absolute best in making Palm Sunday, the Triduum, and Easter Sunday such a gloriously spiritual experience.  We are all humbled and grateful for your lovely and uplifting music.

To Hal Stratton, our Verger, who guided the Triduum Liturgies so smoothly.  To our acolytes Jason Holliman and Steve Raftery who solemnly performed their duties. To Cyndi DeBock who put together the worship programs taking plenty of time to piece them all together so beautifully.  To our Holy Saturday decorators Mary Fletcher-Gomez, Thelma Malecek, Laura Lampe, Douglas VanHouten, Steve Raftery and Hal Stratton, who brought such color and style to the worship space. To Audrey Cannon and Katie Black, who saw to polishing the candle holders and chalices so they sparkle and shine so beautifully.  To Pat Kalicki who made sure the Lessons read during each Liturgy were printed and placed at the pulpit for the readers. To each and every one who read the Lessons and prayed the prayers...no doubt our Lord is ever so pleased with our mortal efforts!  Well done, everyone!

To our dear Eunice Dohra who made sure the Easter Bunny had plenty of candy-filled eggs to hide away.  You are a blessing to us all, Eunice.

To Penny and Hank Mandziara who made sure to invite our good friend the Easter Bunny himself to St. Nicholas bringing so many sweet treats for all our youngsters to find and enjoy.  Thank you a million times over, Easter Bunny.

To the beautiful Community of St. Nicholas who, as a family of faith came, worshiped and celebrated this most holy of times.  My beloved sisters and brothers, my dear friends, we are all so blessed.  Thank you, one and all.
