"Let us be grateful to the people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom." -Marcel Proust
"Teach your children to choose the right path, and when they are older, they will remain upon it." -Proverbs 22:6
"A mother's love liberates." -Maya Angelou
"All that I am or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother." -Abraham Lincoln
"It's not how much we give but how much love we put into giving." -Mother Teresa
"A mother holds her children's hands for a while...their heart forever." -Unknown One of our neighbors recently had a baby; an adorable, sweet little girl. The other day as she was walking her baby she stopped and talked with us. Douglas and I were out doing some gardening on the front yards. We peeked into the stroller and gazed upon this little miracle...all we could do was smile. So beautiful. So gentle. So innocent. I looked into the face of our neighbor, this new mother and saw her beam with joy and delight. Love is love. However, there is nothing like the love of a mom. It is a divine and treasured gift. From heaven above I can still feel, and sense, and glory in my mom's love and for this I am grateful and humbled. I suspect the same can be said for all who have lost their beloved mother yet can still sense, feel and rejoice in her love that still fills our heart.
To all our moms, grandmothers, godmothers, aunts and sisters, to all the women of this community of faith, this St. Nicholas Church, I wish to share with you my blessings, my thankfulness and my sincere love and affection.
HAPPY AND BLESSED MOTHER'S DAY.
GOD BLESS, SUSTAIN AND KEEP YOU EVER
IN GOD'S LOVING AND PROTECTIVE HANDS.

Relay for Life...Let's Fight Cancer Together!
|
Saturday, May 16th at Elk Grove High School
|
Our Lisette Rodriguez is once again participating in this year's Relay For Life. We're hoping that many others may wish to participate, too! This year's event is scheduled for Saturday, May 16th and will be held at the Elk Grove High School located at Elk Grove Blvd. and Arlington Heights Road. Cancer claims the lives of thousands each year. We can all do our part in the fight against this deadly disease. Please come on out and join in! There will be children's activities, ceremonies, food, fun and the Rodriguez children will even be playing in a soccer game. So, we can cheer, cheer, cheer for two of our youngest parishioners! For additional information, please click here and join "Live to Dance." Together, we can make a difference.

Celebrate our moms with their pictures in church
|
Each year throughout the month of May, we pay homage to our Mothers. Whether our Moms are with us here and now or in their heavenly domain, we honor and show our love for them. We give thanks for our moms, along with our Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of Jesus, for their sacrifices, their care for us and their enduring love. Please bring a framed photo to church and we shall place it upon the altar at the west side of the church where these pictures will stand until the end of the month.

We "knead" some communion bread, please
|
Hey, you...would you like to help out with some bread baking? Our supply is getting low and we could certainly use a few volunteers to help out with baking bread for use at our services. Pans and recipe are in the sacristy and ready to be put to good use. In advance, thank you to all who have baked bread in the past and to those who graciously will share their time and talent for this sacred ministry. Blessings to all.

Special Prayers for Emily Day
|
God bless and sustain our sister and friend
|
Prayers, support and well wishes are asked for our dear friend and sister in Christ, Emily Day. Her health has been failing and she now requires around-the-clock attention. Emily is now residing at the Bridgeway Christian Village in nearby Bensenville. Please pray for Emily and also for her loving husband Dick; that they both receive the strength, grace, peace and God's divine love in abundance.

The Community of St. Nicholas is praying
|
For the repose of the soul of Debbie Fiege, aunt to our Kirsten Gidd-Hoffman: pray for all who mourn and grieve as we celebrate Debbie's entry into Paradise.
For the people of the Middle East who continue to ignore all that they share in common and choose rather to focus on the differences they create.
For the nation of Nepal who continue to recover from the devastating earth quake: let us pray for those who have died, those still missing, for all who have been displaced and swift assistance from the world-wide community.
For those who have died crossing the Mediterranean Sea in their efforts to find a better life elsewhere: pray for their souls and the safety of all others who continue to seek freedom.
For all our parishioners who are traveling for business and pleasure: pray their destinations are reached in Gods' speed and safety and their time away is restful and successful.
For those in our world who suffer because of their faith: pray all are allowed to worship God freely and without fear.
For our pets and all God's creatures who bring us so much joy: pray they are cared for and protected against harm.
For all our St. Nicholas community members who are under the weather and in need of healing and prayers: may they find peace and be blessed with sound and better health: Vivian, Kenneth, Vernon, Connie Nicholson, Marica Kizior, Joanne Mangiaracina, Kesha, Ron Glos, Mary Gans, Eunice Dohra, K.C., Emily & Dick Day, Dale Rickey, Paula O'Conner, Phil Cooper, Tim Laughlin, Jackie, Chris, Cathy Walters, Carrie, Tim, Pat and any one else in need of our continued prayers and well wishes.

To all teachers and educators...you give so much of yourselves and you often times go unnoticed and unappreciated. We're here to tell you that you are appreciated and we value your gifts, your talents and your dedication. Thank you, teachers!
To Lawayne, Earl and Eason who "power cleaned" the church, kitchen, bathrooms and main entrance...lemon fresh, pine sol clean and smiling faces all around because of your kindness and dedication. Thanks Williams Family!
To Tom Smith who picked up food from Jewel each Wednesday throughout April...every little donation goes a very long way to feeding those who hunger...thanks, Tom.
To Connie Nicholson and Marilyn Brown who dug and planted away in our gardens...green thumbs making things look mighty pretty. Thank you!
