2015 Annual Meeting
This Sunday, January 25th following the 10AM service
Our Annual Meeting will take place this Sunday after the 10AM service.  All are invited and encouraged to attend.  We'll enjoy a potluck lunch as part of the meeting, so if you are able, bring along a dish to share.

In preparation for the meeting, you may want to read the 2014 Annual Report by clicking the link below.

The Vicar's Corner
Let's be honest, no one really "likes and enjoys" meetings.  Really: meetings are a necessary entity in any business, company, agency and yes, for churches, too.  Perhaps especially for churches are meetings essential and required.  Meetings keep us focused, centered and both direct and keep us on the path that helps us in building a better and stronger house of worship.  We would all agree on that, would we not?  Meetings allow us to voice our opinions, share our views and express our concerns and considerations.  Meetings provide us the venue to elect our church representatives as we chart out our course for the year ahead.

This Sunday, January 25th we will gather as a community of faith, as the prayerful family of St. Nicholas Episcopal Church.   This is the one "entire parish family" meeting that represents and best demonstrates the need for unity and the call for collegiality within the congregation.  Certainly, we're not all going to agree on everything...that's for sure.  However, we must gather, talk, share, perhaps argue a bit, but ultimately come to decisions that best aid us in our efforts of making St. Nicholas the best it can be...the best WE can be.

Lastly, as important as planning and charting our course for the year ahead may be, there is also the blessed opportunity of getting to know our fellow members of this church, this community of faith that much better.  Consider this annual meeting "the opening of a new book," where new friends are found and old friendships are strengthened.  Take to heart this quote of contemporary poet Eric Micha'el Leventhal I came across:

          "Each person you meet
           is an aspect of yourself,
           clamoring for love."

Let no one clamor any longer.   Let us share what we have, one with the other and help to grow and sustain this living and breathing place we call our home...this St. Nicholas Church.

Amen.

Prayer Requests
The Community of St. Nicholas is praying
For the success of our Annual Church Meeting this coming Sunday:  Pray the Spirit fill us with grace, patience and strength to willingly take upon ourselves the work before us; in building a stronger, more alive church that will stand, serve and worship for many, many more years.

For those who are crippled by the bitter cold:  Pray warmth and protection is found and secured.

For Connie Nicholson who underwent surgery on her broken wrist and for pancreatic cancer.  Pray she heals completely, recovers quickly and is able to be with us very soon.

For "Aunti" Pat Beahr, our Donna Tamaski's sister, who is recovering from successful knee surgery.  Pray for Pat's return to good and sound health and that she is up and around very soon.

For the repose of the soul of "CJ" Dawley and prayers for his family.

For K.C., a friend of our Katie Black:  K.C. is in stage 4 of color cancer which has spread to other parts of his body.  Pray for K.C., that he receives special grace and peace and pray for his family that they find strength and courage.

For those who are to have surgery or are recovering from surgery:  pray they are cared for and good and sound health is theirs.

For all our St. Nicholas community members who are under the weather and in need of healing and prayers:  may they find peace and be blessed with sound and better health:  Joanne Mangiaracina, Kesha, Vernon Forde, Dick and Mary Gans, Eunice Dohra, Bob DeHaven, Dick Day, Dale Rickey, Paula O' Conner, Jim Laughlin, Jackie, Chris, Cathy Walters, Carrie and any one else in need of our continued prayers and well wishes.

***   "Pray for Kesha who is suffering from a brain aneurism."

Shout-Outs
To Steve Raftery for proclaiming the Gospel and sharing his reflection last weekend...as the "conductor of this little engine," that is St. Nicholas, thank you so very much.

To the Order of St. Luke for sharing your healing ministry with us last weekend...blessings that sustain and inspire.

To the good people of St. Simon's Episcopal Church in Arlington Heights and the Brotherhood of St. Andrews who donated food to our pantry.  Such kindness does not go unappreciated.  God bless.

To Jim, our friend and Support Group member who has pitched in to keep the sidewalks clean and clear...great work, dear friend.

To "Captain Lou," our friend and member of the Support Group who plowed our drive and parking lot and will continue to do so throughout the winter...what a generous and kind man you are.
