The Vicar's Corner

Well my St. Nicholas Community, yours truly is away in Fairhope, Alabama for a week-long workshop called CREDO.

This unique, "by invitation only" experience is a welcomed opportunity for me to gather with other clergy from around the country to talk about ministry, prayer, health and well-being.  It's not always easy or comfortable "opening up" to a large group of people we've never met before.  But, that is what this week is all about: opening and revealing one's self in both small and large group settings.  Also, there are opportunities to meet one-on-one with therapists, counselors and spiritual directors...this truly is a holistic and thorough exam of self.  Blessedly, there are moments for time alone, exercise and socializing and I plan to  utilize the best of all that is available in order to get the most of this rare opportunity.

I'll share more from CREDO in future editions of News From Nick.  But, for now, and for your reading and sharing entertainment here are some "commercial, brand name" items that have taken on a more divine nature...enjoy:

God is like...BAYER ASPIRIN...He works miracles.

God is like...A FORD...He's got a better idea.

God is like...COKE...He's the real thing.

God is like...HALLMARK CARDS...He cares enough to send the very best.

God is like...TIDE...He gets the stains out others leave behind.

Thanks to my St. Nicholas contact who shared these with me...had to pass along for the entire community to enjoy.  More to come in a future edition.

Movie Night at St. Nicholas
Friday, October 25, at 6:30PM
witches-pattern.gif How about some chills and spine-tingling suspense?  Well, it's almost Halloween and that means we need the perfect "seasonal movie."

On Friday night, October 25th at 6:30PM we will be showing the original version of "The Haunting."  A classic suspense movie in blissful black and white.  Leaves us wondering what really is happening in this old and mysterious house.

The movie first aired in 1963 and stars Julie Harris, Claire Bloom and Richard Johnson.  The movie is "PG," so be mindful of younger children.  (This is not a "slasher movie."  There are no graphic nor distressful scenes; plenty of sound effects of a mysterious nature.)

Pizza will be served; bring along some snacks if you'd like, too.  A sign-up sheet is posted in the Gathering Space.  If your plans change and you are able to come though you may not have signed up, fear not - all are welcome!

See you then...if you dare!
What the Heck is Trunk-or-Treat?
A time to gather as community; to decorate our car trunks for Halloween and provide a safe and fun trick-or-treating environment for neighborhood children
We hope you'll plan to decorate the trunk of your vehicle and join us as we welcome children to a fun and safe Trunk-or-Treating on Sunday, October 27, from 1-4PM.  Our cars, with trunks decorated for Halloween, will be in our parking lot and children in costume are welcome to make their way from car to car seeking candy.

Think of it as a community tailgate party.

Donations of bags of candy are warmly welcomed (there is a collection box in the gathering space).

If you would like to decorate your car and participate in what promises to be a fun event, please email Donna Tamaski.

Shout-Outs
The good people of St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights who, once again, donated food to our pantry...your continued kindness and generosity is warmly welcomed.

Bob DeHaven, who has pitched in by printing and folding the church worship programs the past few weeks while Pat has been ill...your contributions and assistance are very much appreciated.

Donna Tamaski, Jennifer Garcia, Bob DeHaven, Jennifer Brundige, Douglas VanHouten, Hal Stratton, and Tameica Williams, who have volunteered to lend their time and talent to the ministry of producing the worship bulletins, prayers of the assembly, and sending lessons and prayers to our lectors and intercessors.  A HUGE thanks to Pat Kalicki, who beautifully attended to these ministries for so long.  How wonderful that so many stepped forward so that Pat can now concentrate on healing.

Those in our community who pitch in when things need to be done:  Jenn Garcia for making coffee this past weekend and the Williams family for cleaning the bathrooms...you are all so kind and considerate.
