The Vicar's Corner
Summer has slid in and now, the season of sunshine, humidity, nights with cricket noises, graceful lightning bugs and beautiful, "after 8pm" sunsets begins.  Actually, we've had quite the memorable spring, record setting in fact, what with all the rain we've received.  Then again, the March, April and May showers have brought us verdant, colorful June gardens.  Truly, we have much for which to be grateful.  Thank you, dear Lord, for all your gifts, great and small alike.

So, with all that being said, for this particular installment and on various occasions to come, I will share a riddle or two with all of you: to arouse your curiosity, to spark your intellect and maybe, just maybe, confound a folk or two.  I'll start with a couple of riddles, if I may.  Enjoy, have a good time and do not fret...this is all in fun.  It is meant to enjoy as we savor this season's welcoming, summer sun!

Ready...
Set...
Start scratching your heads and thinking...

A)  Angus MacGregor

Angus MacGregor's office is on the 35th floor of the Royal Insurance Company.  Almost every morning he takes the elevator to the 25th floor and walks up the remaining 10 flights of stairs; but in the evenings he travels all the way down in the elevator from the 35th floor.  Why?  And note: MacGregor has no need or desire for exercise.

B)  Professor Baba

Professor Baba is on one of his lecture tours in the far east.  Late at night he telephones the room next to his in the hotel.  Another man answers.
"Is that Mr. Tabako?  asks Baba.
"No," says the man.
Professor Baba puts the telephone down and shortly afterwards (as a result of the telephone call) goes to sleep.  Explain his behavior in 4 simple words.

There you have it, my good and dear people.  Not so hard, though not as visible as a church steeple.  Think once and maybe twice and thrice if need be.  Write your answers lickety-split and those with their thinking caps on we shall see.  I'll print the right ones and keep those that are in error, be.  But, again, when you are finished, email your answers, thank you so much, from yours truly...me.

Prayer Requests
The Community of St. Nicholas is praying for:

For Lynette Hamon who was admitted to Alexian Brothers Hospital; that she has a full recovery and regains good health.

With sadness and with our well wishes, we bid farewell to Christy, Kraig and Jack McCreary:  they recently moved to 'far away' Skokie.  They made the difficult decision to attend a church closer to their new home and thus, leaving St. Nicholas.  We sent them off with our blessings, peace and thanks for their gifts they shared with us.

For Erlene Lee-Forde who is traveling to visit with her father: her destination is reached in God's speed and safety, she enjoy her visit with family and she returns home to us safe and secure.

To Kathy and Bill Barlow who are traveling abroad: that they enjoy their journey and find much happiness, relaxation and safety be with them.

Miguel Martinez, the son of a friend of St. Nicholas:  Miguel, an innocent bystander, was shot 5 times by gangs who were engaged in a street fight.  Pray that Miguel continues to recover from his injuries and he returns to full and lasting good health.

Cathy Walters, sister of Mindy Golden:
that she continue her remarkable recovery and savor each and every day as gift from God.

For all who have donated organs and other vital, bodily parts in order to save and secure the life of others:  may their sacrifices be honored and remembered.

For our St. Nicholas community members who are under the weather and unable to join us for weekend Liturgy:  they may all regain full strength and healing.

Nancy Allan whose poor health will keep her from joining us at worship for the next few weeks.  Pray for her well being and full recovery.
Ethel 'Corkey' Stratton, Hal's Mom, she has suffered mini-strokes and is battling dementia and Alzheimers: that she regain some strength and mobility and her loved ones are blessed with patience and acceptance.
Victims of violence, war, oppression, discrimination and poverty.

Bernie, Eunice's youngest son who has taken a serious turn and is back in the hospital.  Pray for his recovery and for the well being of his family.

**Jennifer M. asks for prayers.

**Peggy O. asks for prayers.

Quenten Fabiano, a friend of St. Nicholas was in a serious car accident and has suffered severe brain damage:  pray for his full and complete recovery and for the strength and perseverance of his family and friends.

For Eunice Dohra, Marcia Kizior, Pamela Joy DeHaven, Richard and Mary Gans: members and family of our community of St. Nicholas who continue to experience health concerns: for the full restoration of sound health and a productive life.

Peter Barlow, son of Bill and Kathy Barlow: for his safety and the safety of all our military men and women overseas.

(**written prayer requests collected during Liturgy)

Shout-Outs
Thank you!

To all who did such a wonderful job with Little Boots Rodeo.  The kids had a great time and the good people of St. Nicholas really did an amazing job staffing our two booths.  Stay tuned next week for pictures!  God bless all the good people of St. Nicholas and the continuous sharing of time, talent and treasure!

To Steve Raftery for proclaiming Gospel and sharing his personal reflection with us this past weekend.

To the good people of St. Simon's Episcopal Church in Arlington Heights who, once again, donated much needed canned goods to our food pantry.

To Jim, a Support Group member who helped with the trimming and manicuring of the shrubs and bushes around the church...your green thumb is most warmly welcomed and appreciated.

To Rev. Fran Begonja who attended to Lynette at Alexian Brothers in Fr. Manny's absence.
