In "Pop of Color," the artwork of Remsenburg-Speonk School artists in the 5th and 6th grades will be on display. Join the community in celebrating these aspiring and inspiring young artists at their Opening Night Reception at the Academy on Friday, May 6 from 5 - 7 PM. Music will be provided by the Elementary Jazz Ensemble and student musicians, and refreshments will be served courtesy of the Remsenburg-Speonk PTO. "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels"

'Give them what they want' sings con man Lawrence in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels playing at the North Fork Community Theatre this month. A fun and lively musical, the show is based on the movie staring Steve Martin. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels opens at the North Fork Community Theatre in Mattituck on May 12 and plays on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, and Sunday matinees through May 29. North Fork Coastal Cleanup Series
Group for the East End is very excited to announce the full schedule of coastal cleanups along the North Fork of Long Island! Everything collected will be repurposed into life-size sculptures of wildlife that are impacted by the large amounts of debris in our coastal waters. Wildlife love clean beaches as much as people do! The more volunteers who can participate, the cleaner we our beaches can be. Help raise awareness and protect sea turtles, osprey, harbor seals and other wildlife from life-threatening debris in our local waters. UpSculpt Workshop for Artists with Cindy Pease Roe
Calling all adult artists: Get inspired! Learn how to 'upcycle' marine debris and turn it into sculpture - you could be part of the public art project. This workshop is in conjunction with Group for the East End's NoFo Coastal Cleanup Project, and in partnership with East End Arts. Artist Cindy Pease Roe will give a presentation on marine plastics and upcycling; a demonstration; and then supervise this workshop. Each participant will learn how to sculpt from marine debris. Cindy will discuss marine plastics as it relates to her artwork and the environment and show a short video about whales. OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS: THE CONTEMPORARY PORTRAIT Art Show
Open call for artist participation in the upcoming juried, all media art show The Contemporary Portrait at the East End Arts Gallery in Riverhead. Gallery Director Jane Kirkwood comments on the theme: "It's not just about replicating superficial features, it's about capturing something deeper and therefore more authentic about an individual. It's the gesture that predicts the character, an expression that reveals the thinker. When skill expresses insight, the artist rocks the portrait." Guest jurors for this show are Deanne Shashoua and Michael Lyons Wier of Lyons Wier Gallery, New York, NY. Original works in all media may be submitted, including: painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, video, and sculpture; up to three entries can be submitted per artist. Visual art entries will be accepted on Thursday, June 9 and Friday, June 10 from 10 AM to 4 PM; and Saturday, June 11 from 10 AM to 3 PM at the EEA Gallery. CALL FOR CHALK ARTISTS: Arts on Terry The Patchogue Arts Council is seeking sidewalk chalk artists to perform their craft live at the upcoming Arts on Terry street fair on May 15, 2016. Arts on Terry is a joint venture between the Patchogue Arts Council and Artspace Patchogue. The fair will take place on Terry Street and Taylor Lane adjacent to the Artspace building in Patchogue. CALL FOR YOUTH VOCALISTS The National Children's Chorus in New York City provides musically talented children the opportunity to learn and grow in an extraordinary environment. The finest instructors work with students to develop their vocal skills from the most basic concepts through the college level. Tone quality, breath support, and musical expression are cultivated within each individual singer, while working together as an ensemble culminates in world-class performances at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall and beyond. CALL TO ARTISTS: 2016 Embracing Our Differences The Suffolk Center on the Holocaust, Diversity and Human Understanding, Inc. at SCCC in Selden, NY is seeking submissions for the tenth annual Embracing our Differences outdoor art exhibition. Each year Long Island artists, professionals, amateurs, teachers and students create works that interpret and explore the struggles and joys of living in a diverse community, and/or the impact of prejudice and hatred on human dignity. Selected artwork will be displayed as 16' x 12' banners at multiple venues, and will have an enormous impact on building an inclusive society - one that rejects hatred. CALLING ALL PHOTOGRAPHERS: Art Limited presents << Multiple-Exposure >> Competition In photography, a multiple exposure is the superimposition of two or more exposures to create a single image. The exposure values may or may not be identical to each other. The number of combinations is not limited. Explanations of the technique will be a plus for the jury. The end of the participation date is May 31, 2016 at 11:59 PM time in Paris, France. The 50 members of the jury composed from the top artists and the Art Limited team will vote for the best 3 creations and artists into the theme. CALL FOR ARTISTS OF ALL DISCIPLINES: ARTIST RESIDENCY OPPORTUNITY IN ORIENT, NY The William Steeple Davis Trust of Orient, Long Island is now accepting applications for an artist-in-residence for the period of October 15, 2016 - October 1, 2017. Past residents' endeavors have included painting, photography, writing, sculpting, poetry and music. The Davis house and studio are located in Orient, on the eastern end of the North Fork of Long Island, NY, approximately 100 miles from New York City. The house and studio are in a quiet location within sight of Orient Harbor, and walking distance of public beaches, open fields and marshes, a post office and a small country store. Residence in the house would be possible without a car, but quite inconvenient. Due to the limitations of the small historic house, children and pets cannot be accommodated. CALL FOR ARTISTS: Creative Cups Adelphi Breast Cancer Hotline, a non-profit located in Garden City, Long Island that offers emotional support, as well as resources for people suffering from breast cancer is preparing for their biggest event, which occurs every two years: Creative Cups. Creative Cups is a thought-provoking art exhibition and fundraising event to benefit the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program. CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: DAN'S PAPERS $10,000 LITERARY PRIZE FOR NONFICTION Dan's Papers is now accepting submissions for their annual $6,000 Literary Prize for Nonfiction and $4,000 Emerging Young Writers Prize for Nonfiction! Entries must be nonfiction works between 600-1500 words and meaningfully reference the East End. Writers 25 and younger are eligible to vie for the Emerging Young Writers Prize.
