The Hampton Theatre Company presents "Lost in Yonkers", Neil Simon's Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning tender comic masterwork about two young boys coming of age in a zany family of colorful characters in the "City of Gracious Living" in 1942, from March 31 through April 17 at the Quogue Community Hall. Performances are Thursdays and Fridays at 7 PM, Saturdays at 8 PM, and Sundays at 2:30 PM. Honorable Mention in East End Arts Gallery Show COLOR
Congratulations to East End Arts member Barbara Hyman for her artwork receiving 'honorable mention' in East End Arts Gallery's COLOR show. "Red Shadow" is an 'edgy' painting of a multifaceted young woman. She is just the kind of young women Hyman loves to paint. Maria is a classically trained opera singer, but, she sings jazz improv in clubs in NY, and her dressing style is very 'Downtown'. Hyman's interest is in the way young people perceive opportunities and choices in 'the age of becoming'. A time when there are seemingly endless choices in life, and those made are a reaction to a very personal evaluation of talent, self confidence, and perseverance. What influences the direction one takes? Twenty something, transitional time in life. Hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 10 AM - 4 PM. North Fork Coastal Cleanup Series
Group for the East End is very excited to announce the full schedule of coastal cleanups along the North Fork of Long Island! Everything collected will be repurposed into life-size sculptures of wildlife that are impacted by the large amounts of debris in our coastal waters. Wildlife love clean beaches as much as people do! The more volunteers who can participate, the cleaner we our beaches can be. Help raise awareness and protect sea turtles, osprey, harbor seals and other wildlife from life-threatening debris in our local waters. Join the fun! Picnic lunch, video workshop, and scavenger hunt on the grounds of The Watermill Center. Children 4-12 and their families are invited to tour The Center and look for objects on display in our first interactive Watermill Scavenger Hunt. A Video Workshop is open to Ages 7-12. Participants will create and perform together while learning about green screen technology, costuming, and improvised acting for camera. Family members are encouraged to take on production roles in this workshop led by 2015 Artist-in-Residence, Amy Khoshbin, a video and performance artist based in New York City. OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS: EEA's 5th Annual National Art Competition & Exhibition
Artists are invited to enter their most excellent artwork on any subject. This national show will be juried four separate times by four different jurors from the same pool of entries, and will result in four separate exhibitions. Guest jurors for this competition are:
The Gallerist: Peter Marcelle, Director, Gerald Peters Gallery, New York, NY; and Owner, Peter Marcelle Project, Southampton, NY;
The Artist: Eric Ernst, internationally renowned artist and columnist;
The Critic: Joyce Beckenstein, published art critique for NY Times & contributing editor to dozens of art periodicals; and
The Kid: A 12-year-old kid chosen by lottery.
The show chosen by Peter Marcelle, gallery owner, will be exhibited at the East End Arts Gallery. The other three shows will be viewable on individual monitors within the Gallery. All four shows with their chosen winners will be viewable on YouTube and on EastEndArts.org. East End Arts Gallery Director Jane Kirkwood encourages artists: "This is an incredible opportunity for artists to have their work viewed by three renowned names in the art world. To be noticed by one or more of these jurors could possibly result in future opportunities. We included 'the kid' to get the viewpoint of an art world 'innocent'. I can't wait to see what the jurors agree on-and where they diverge." This competition is open to any two-dimensional art. Artists must enter a minimum of three and a maximum of five works for the same entry fee of $45. Entries will be accepted through online entry form only. Submission deadlines: April 5, 2016, with an extended deadline of April 12, 2016 (additional fee applies.) Exhibit dates are August 5 through September 21, 2016. 'Best in Show' winner will receive a seven-day stay in EEA Artist Residence near Hamptons' Museums and Galleries, plus $1,000 and inclusion in a group show at the at The Peter Marcelle Project, art gallery in Southampton NY. Open call for artist participation in the upcoming juried, art show Art of the Non-Dominant Hand at the East End Arts Gallery in Riverhead. Open to all painting, pastel & drawing media. Gallery Director Jane Kirkwood comments on the theme: "Meaning, of course, if you are right-handed you would, on your honor, create a piece entirely with your left hand - or visa versa. If you cheat you won't get the experience of accessing a new and different component of your creativity. This is an exploration guaranteed to surprise and delight all who attempt an entry." 20th ANNIVERSARY COMMUNITY MOSAIC STREET PAINTING FESTIVAL
Sunday, May 29, 2016 in Downtown Riverhead, presented by East End Arts! Open call for performing artists to be street and stage performers at this Memorial Day Weekend tradition in downtown Riverhead, presented by East End Arts. This free event draws 5,000 local residents and tourists. Musicians, soloists/bands, singers (all genres ranging from Pop and Rock to Jazz and Gospel) are encouraged to apply, as well as dancers, poets/spoken word artists, theatre troupes and other performing acts). Submissions for street performing acts may also include jugglers, dancers and other performing acts. Performing artists must be 15 years of age or older to perform on the Showmobile stage and prepared to perform a 10-15 minute set. All acts on the Showmobile and on the street must be family-friendly. Submissions must be received by Monday, April 4, 2016 to be considered. Open call for artist participation in the upcoming juried, all media art show The Contemporary Portrait at the East End Arts Gallery in Riverhead. Gallery Director Jane Kirkwood comments on the theme: "It's not just about replicating superficial features, it's about capturing something deeper and therefore more authentic about an individual. It's the gesture that predicts the character, an expression that reveals the thinker. When skill expresses insight, the artist rocks the portrait." CALL FOR ARTISTS The newly formed arts council of Long Beach, NY is pleased to announce our first paint event: painting the ticket booths that will then be installed on the boardwalk. CALL FOR ARTISTS: Long Island Biennial The Heckscher Museum of Art is now accepting entries for the Long Island Biennial 2016, a juried exhibition featuring works by visual artists from Nassau and Suffolk Counties. This year's jurors will be Lori Bookstein, Lori Bookstein Fine Art, New York; Seung Lee, Professor of Art, Director of Fine Arts and Graduate Studies, LIU Post; and Christina Mossaides Strassfield, Museum Director/Chief Curator, Guild Hall, East Hampton. Approximately 40 works will be selected for the exhibition, and all submitted entries will be posted on the Museum's Long Island Biennial website. physical theatre directors and multidisciplinary artists. The grant covers room and 3 meals per day during international performing arts residency in Tuscany, Italy. Arts Oasis dates are May 25 - June 1, 2016. Arts Oasis is the annual program is based at the territory of the 12th century Monastery, the famous place of seclusion of Dante Alighieri. The program is inviting performing arts practitioners from all over the world, passionate and inspired by movement, dance, physical theater, interested in contemporary methods of performance practice and seeking new professional contacts and collaboration. CALLING ALL LONG ISLAND SCHOOL AGE ARTISTS Students, Pre-K through Grade 12, are encouraged to celebrate ARTS MONTH ON LONG ISLAND by participating in the Arts Alive LI 2016 Poster Contest. The contest, which runs from March 14 to May 25, 2016 represents a unique opportunity for students to become involved with the premier regional celebration of the arts on Long Island, win prizes and see their winning entries on exhibit at Long Island Children's Museum (LICM) in Garden City, NY. The Grand Prize is a $300 Gift Certificate. $50 Gift Certificates will also be awarded to First Prize winners in each of three (3) categories including: Pre-K - Grade 5, Grades 6-8, and Grades 9-12. CALL TO ARTISTS: 2016 Embracing Our Differences The Suffolk Center on the Holocaust, Diversity and Human Understanding, Inc. at SCCC in Selden, NY is seeking submissions for the tenth annual Embracing our Differences outdoor art exhibition. Each year Long Island artists, professionals, amateurs, teachers and students create works that interpret and explore the struggles and joys of living in a diverse community, and/or the impact of prejudice and hatred on human dignity. Selected artwork will be displayed as 16' x 12' banners at multiple venues, and will have an enormous impact on building an inclusive society - one that rejects hatred. CALLING ALL PHOTOGRAPHERS: Art Limited presents << Multiple-Exposure >> Competition In photography, a multiple exposure is the superimposition of two or more exposures to create a single image. The exposure values may or may not be identical to each other. The number of combinations is not limited. Explanations of the technique will be a plus for the jury. The end of the participation date is May 31, 2016 at 11:59pm time in Paris, France. The 50 members of the jury composed from the top artists and the Art Limited team will vote for the best 3 creations and artists into the theme. Creative Cups is a thought-provoking art exhibition and fundraising event to benefit the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program. Guided visits offer visitors direct engagement with Donald Judd's art and vision.
