Amy Helm's deep musical roots were enriched by a lifetime of exposure to the finest expressions of American musical tradition. Join noted photographer Meghan Boody as she discusses her new book, We Are Gods in the Chrysalis, a compendium of her fantastical photographs and cabinets of curiosity. Boody will walk the audience through the story cycles of her most recent photographic series. Themes of psychological transformation, personal trajectories of success and failure and strategies to navigate the roller coaster of life will be addressed. She will end her talk by giving mini, single card readings to a few volunteers from her own oracle deck. Please come with questions about your own personal journey! This free event draws 5,000 local residents and tourists. OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS: EEA's 5th Annual National Art Competition & Exhibition
Artists are invited to enter their most excellent artwork on any subject. This national show will be juried four separate times by four different jurors from the same pool of entries, and will result in four separate exhibitions. Guest jurors for this competition are:
The Gallerist: Peter Marcelle, Director, Gerald Peters Gallery, New York, NY; and Owner, Peter Marcelle Project, Southampton, NY;
The Artist: Eric Ernst, internationally renowned artist and columnist;
The Critic: Joyce Beckenstein, published art critique for NY Times & contributing editor to dozens of art periodicals; and
The Kid: A 12-year-old kid chosen by lottery.
The show chosen by Peter Marcelle, gallery owner, will be exhibited at the East End Arts Gallery. The other three shows will be viewable on individual monitors within the Gallery. All four shows with their chosen winners will be viewable on YouTube and on EastEndArts.org. East End Arts Gallery Director Jane Kirkwood encourages artists: "This is an incredible opportunity for artists to have their work viewed by three renowned names in the art world. To be noticed by one or more of these jurors could possibly result in future opportunities. We included 'the kid' to get the viewpoint of an art world 'innocent'. I can't wait to see what the jurors agree on-and where they diverge." This competition is open to any two-dimensional art. Artists must enter a minimum of three and a maximum of five works for the same entry fee of $45. Entries will be accepted through online entry form only. Open call for performing artists to be street and stage performers at this Memorial Day Weekend tradition in downtown Riverhead, presented by East End Arts. This free event draws 5,000 local residents and tourists. Musicians, soloists/bands, singers (all genres ranging from Pop and Rock to Jazz and Gospel) are encouraged to apply, as well as dancers, poets/spoken word artists, theatre troupes and other performing acts). Submissions for street performing acts may also include jugglers, dancers and other performing acts. Performing artists must be 15 years of age or older to perform on the Showmobile stage and prepared to perform a 10-15 minute set. All acts on the Showmobile and on the street must be family-friendly. Submissions must be received by Monday, April 4, 2016 to be considered. Open call for artist participation in the upcoming juried, art show Art of the Non-Dominant Hand at the East End Arts Gallery in Riverhead. Open to all painting, pastel & drawing media. Gallery Director Jane Kirkwood comments on the theme: "Meaning, of course, if you are right-handed you would, on your honor, create a piece entirely with your left hand - or visa versa. If you cheat you won't get the experience of accessing a new and different component of your creativity. This is an exploration guaranteed to surprise and delight all who attempt an entry." CALL FOR ARTISTS Hamptons Art Hub is issuing a Call for Art with water as muse, subject or as a generating material used in the artwork. Submissions are sought in two categories: Fine Art and Fine Art Photography. This is their second annual Call for Art and will be judged by a panel with one winner selected in both categories (Fine Art and Fine Art Photography). CALL FOR ARTISTS: Guild Hall's 78th Annual Artist Members Exhibition Top Honors for this non-juried members exhibition receives a solo show in The Museum's Spiga Gallery. Awards Juror is JiaJia Fei, recently appointed as Director of Digital at the Jewish Museum in New York. She previously served as Associate Director, Digital Marketing at the Solomon R. CALL FOR ARTISTS: Long Island Biennial The Heckscher Museum of Art is now accepting entries for the Long Island Biennial 2016, a juried exhibition featuring works by visual artists from Nassau and Suffolk Counties. FREE TOURS FOR ARTISTS OF 101 SPRING STREET Judd Foundation is pleased to offer free visits to 101 Spring Street for practicing artists in New York City. Guided visits offer visitors direct engagement with Donald Judd's art and vision. Judd's formerly private living and working space provides first-hand experience of Judd's concept of permanent installation in downtown New York. If you are an artist living and working in New York City, contact newyork@juddfoundation.org to book your visit.
