Suffolk County Community College Presents
"Amusements in Natures"
Sculpture by Jonathan Pearlman & Photography by Steven Schreiber
At the Lyceum Gallery, SCCC Eastern Campus, Riverhead
This exhibition features two East End Arts members! Jonathan Pearlman constructs sculptures from found objects - lost and collected. Old shoes and wooden wheels, wire and glue are some of the materials Jonathan Pearlman works with. He says, "I could just as easily be a chef working with leftovers." His work is very sculptural in many ways following the classic forms of shape and balance and proportion. Pearlman has won several awards in juried and invitational exhibits, including Best in Show at the East End Arts Gallery in Riverhead three times since 2011. Steven Schreiber began photographing nature in 2002. His personal approach to visual textures and colors are the signature of his photographic creations. Using a unique processing technique he developed, he is able to bring an unusual and spectacular perspective to the trees and landscape he focuses on in this stunning series. The exhibit will run from January 19 through February 20, 2016. Gallery hours are Monday-Thursday 10 AM - 7 PM; Friday 10 AM - 4 PM; and Saturday 11 AM - 4 PM. The Gallery is closed on Sundays and holidays.

BAKITHI KUMALO & FRIENDS
IN CONCERT
7:00 PM
At Hotel Indigo East End, Riverhead
Don't miss this special Long Island performance before Bakithi Kumalo heads off on tour with Paul Simon! Bakithi Kumalo's musical career has been characterized by a series of serendipitous events, ranging from his debut gig as a precocious seven-year-old filling in for the bassist in his uncle's band to his enlistment into Paul Simon's group during the recording sessions of the pop star's landmark Graceland album in 1985. Kumalo creates a singular electric fretless bass sound teeming with double stops that sound like human voices and the African grooves of his homeland, and has garnered him a stellar reputation as a sideman. In addition to touring with Simon, he's also recorded and/or toured with the likes of Gloria Estefan, Derrick Trucks and Susan Tedeschi, Chico Ceasar, Harry Belafonte, Laurie Anderson, Cyndi Lauper, Gerald Albright, Miriam Makeba, Randy Brecker, Grover Washington Jr., Bob James, Angelique Kidjo, Jon Secada, Josh Groban and Chris Botti. ARTIST OPPORTUNITIES

OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS: COLOR Art Show
Open call for artist participation in the upcoming juried, all media art show Color at the East End Arts Gallery in Riverhead. Gallery Director Jane Kirkwood comments on the theme: "For this competition, artists of all media's masterful use of color will be the strongest consideration in choosing art to be included in the exhibit." Guest juror for this show is Amy Worth, owner of The South Street Gallery, Greenport, NY. Original works in all media may be submitted, including: painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, video, and sculpture; up to three entries can be submitted per artist. Visual art entries will be accepted on Thursday, March 3 and Friday, March 4 from 10 AM to 4 PM; and Saturday, March 5 from 10 AM to 3 PM at the EEA Gallery. Opening reception will be held on Friday, March 11, 5 - 7 PM. For more information and to download prospectus, click here.
OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS: EEA's 5th Annual National Art Competition & Exhibition
Artists are invited to enter their most excellent artwork on any subject. This national show will be juried four separate times by four different jurors from the same pool of entries, and will result in four separate exhibitions. Guest jurors for this competition are:
The Gallerist: Peter Marcelle, Director, Gerald Peters Gallery, New York, NY; and Owner, Peter Marcelle Project, Southampton, NY;
The Artist: Eric Ernst, internationally renowned artist and columnist;
The Critic: Joyce Beckenstein, published art critique for NY Times & contributing editor to dozens of art periodicals; and
The Kid: A 12-year-old kid chosen by lottery.
The show chosen by Peter Marcelle, gallery owner, will be exhibited at the East End Arts Gallery. The other three shows will be viewable on individual monitors within the Gallery. All four shows with their chosen winners will be viewable on YouTube and on EastEndArts.org. East End Arts Gallery Director Jane Kirkwood encourages artists: "This is an incredible opportunity for artists to have their work viewed by three renowned names in the art world. To be noticed by one or more of these jurors could possibly result in future opportunities. We included 'the kid' to get the viewpoint of an art world 'innocent'. I can't wait to see what the jurors agree on-and where they diverge." This competition is open to any two-dimensional art. Artists must enter a minimum of three and a maximum of five works for the same entry fee of $45. Entries will be accepted through online entry form only. Submission deadlines: April 5, 2016, with an extended deadline of April 12, 2016 (additional fee applies.) Exhibit dates are August 5 through September 21, 2016. 'Best in Show' winner will receive a seven-day stay in EEA Artist Residence near Hamptons' Museums and Galleries, plus $1,000 and inclusion in a group show at the at The Peter Marcelle Project, art gallery in Southampton NY. For all information and to enter, visit: http://www.eastendarts.org/gallery/national-show-2016.html.
