"Shifting Tides," Photographs by Janice Mehlman and "Works on Paper," by Emerson Woelffer, 1914-2003

"Shifting Tides" highlights the unique vision of renowned artist Janice Mehlman who conflates architectural structures and photography resulting in images that become striking artistic statements. "The click of Janice Mehlman," writes Gian Luigi Corinto in RD'Arte, "is a poetic vision [that] asks of those who look, to spend time in order to be capable of seeing the feelings the images transmit." Emerson Woelffer: "Works on Paper" is an exhibition of lithographs and collages from the artist known as the "grandfather of L.A. modernism." The selection showcases the idiosyncratic nature of the works of Woelffer. They also display his bold use of pure color, line and shape and highlight the tremendous influence of DeKooning and Motherwell in his oeuvre. Quoguegallery.com

BEST OF 30 SQUARED (daily painters) Art Show

18 diverse artists display and sell their best new works, many from the recent challenge to each "paint 30 paintings in 30 days!" Family and handicapped friendly. A reception will be held on June 20, 4:00 to 7:00 PM. The walls overflow with paintings from beach, to landscape, people, dogs, fish, flowers and fruit, urban and country, real and abstract, tiny to large framed. Part of the proceeds benefit the Museum. "POETRY STREET...where every voice is heard!" welcomes writers of all ages to the Blue Duck Bakery Café for this series of "Open Mics", the spoken word project of Susan Dingle for the East End Arts' JumpstART program. The "Open Mics" are hosted by Susan Dingle and Robert "Bubbie" Brown; poets, community advocates, social workers and educators committed to honoring the creativity of all people. Poets, comedians and storytellers are invited to sign up at 1:30 PM; the first 15 writers to sign-up have 3 minutes to perform original work. $5 fee for poets and audience members. EEA's JumpstART program is an innovative public arts collaboration to bring vitality to Downtown Riverhead through partnerships between artists and businesses. The Poetry Street program will continue on the fourth Sunday of every month at the Blue Duck Bakery Café in Riverhead.
