"Duo Tuo" Art Show featuring artists Kirsten Benfield and Jerry Schwabe

At Ashawagh Hall, East Hampton

There will be a Reception Saturday, April 4 from 4 PM to 8 PM. Show hours are Friday 1-7 PM, Saturday 12-8 PM, Sunday 12-4 PM. Jerry Schwabe is a painter, photographer and sculptor. He has studied at various schools, including, the National Academy of Fine Arts, New School University, School of Visual Arts, the Art Students League, and the Golden Eagle. His award-winning work has been displayed at many solo and group shows. This show will feature Jerry's Paintings - Watercolors, Acrylics. A new series of watercolors titled "Wet Pavement" features muted tones. Contrastingly, other paintings are full of vibrant bursts of color pairings. The New York Theatre Organ Society presents: Silent Movie Spectacular Ben-Hur (1925)

Remembering an iconic era lost to time we will screen the 1925 epic silent film Ben-Hur, starring Ramón Navarro and Francis X. Bushman, featuring live organ accompaniment by Bernie Anderson silent film music composer, organist and orchestrator. Ben-Hur was the most expensive silent film ever made at a cost of six million dollars. EEA's 4th Annual National Art Competition: THE FIGURE
Posed or caught in everyday activity, naked or clothed, male or female, human or otherwise, realistic or suggested, front, back or sideways, one or many... the figure has fascinated for as long as man has made art. This competition is open to any two-dimensional art where the feature is 'the figure'. Artists may enter up to five works for $45. Entries will be accepted through online entry form only. Open call for artist participation in the upcoming juried, all media art show THE CARTOON at the East End Arts Gallery in Riverhead. Gallery Director Jane Kirkwood encourages artists: "The Cartoon has more than one meaning in art. It can be a caricature where a subject's features are exaggerated in a humorous way. It's also what those strange, flat little creatures that pop out of our imagination onto our drawing pad are called. And what we call an animated film. Lastly, it's the full-size drawing made by an artist as a preliminary design for a painting or other work of art. However you wish to interpret your 'Cartoon' we welcome you to enter up to three." Guest juror for this show is Matthew Langland, artist and key animator of the feature film "Waking Life". Original works in all media may be submitted, including: painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, video, and sculpture; up to three entries can be submitted per artist. Entries will be accepted on Thursday, April 16 and Friday, April 17 from 10AM to 4PM; and Saturday, April 18 from 10AM to 3PM at the EEA Gallery. CALL FOR ARTISTS & CURATORS: NEW GALLERY OPPORTUNITIES Andrea McCafferty, former director of The Crazy Monkey Gallery in Amagansett, will be opening a new gallery this spring with Daniel Schoenheimer and Sally Breen that is located at 2415 Main Street in Bridgehampton, NY. Andrea will be curating shows with well-known artists and emerging talents throughout the year. Rental space and gallery memberships will also be available under Andrea's direction. REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS Village of Greenport requests proposals for the creation of artwork and painting of the Rounding Board Panels on the Village of Greenport Carousel in Mitchell Park. Greenport is planning to have the rounding boards that encircle the carousel painted with local scenes of the area. There are a total of 14 panels. More than one artist may be selected for this project. The deadline for submission is April 13, 2015. CALL FOR ARTISTS The Village of Patchogue is seeking proposals for an artist designed crosswalk to replace the one currently located in front of the Patchogue Medford Library. The crosswalk will be composed of a durable imprinted aggregate reinforced pre-formed thermoplastic marking system that provides a textured, highly attractive and durable topical treatment to the surface of asphalt pavement. The goal of the project is to improve pedestrian experience and to add a public art experience to the downtown. The design for the crosswalk must be bold and highly graphic. The dimensions for the crosswalk design area are 42'3" by 6'. The design will then be bordered with a 12" wide white border for a final dimensional width of 8 feet. A stipend of $300 will be paid to the artist who designs the winning submission. The Patchogue Arts Council's Visual Arts Committee will select three finalists to be submitted to the Village Board for final determination. The winning submission will be announced at a Village Board meeting no later than June 11, 2015. Submissions should be sent to info@patchoguearts.org with the subject line "crosswalk". OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS The Suffolk Center on the Holocaust, Diversity and Human Understanding, Inc., is seeking submissions for the eighth annual Embracing Our Differences outdoor art exhibition. Open to students, professionals and amateurs of all ages. Artists are asked to submit work that interprets and explores: the struggles and joys of living in a diverse community, the impact of prejudice and hatred on human dignity, and/or the varied people, cultures and perspectives in our world. CALL FOR ARTISTS Upcoming Breast Cancer Benefit Art Exhibition titled "Artists United Against Breast Cancer" of which 100% of all proceeds are going to charity. "Artists United Against Breast Cancer" will run August 30th to October 31, 2015. SEEKING TEACHING ARTISTS APPLICATIONS  
The Community Library Friends of the Arts, Inc. is seeking applications from artists of all disciplines interested in teaching classes to adults at the community library in Shirley. They are interested in unique proposals for multi-session classes which actively engage adults with no prior art experience in the creative process. Compensation: $35-$45 hour depending on proposal. Teaching artists are hired on a project basis as private contractors. CALL FOR SCULPTURE ENTRIES
The Brookhaven Arts and Humanities Council along with The Bellport Chamber of Commerce and Bellport Village are accepting submissions for from sculptors for an outdoor sculpture to be permanently installed in the Village of Bellport. Artists must be 18 years of age or older. Work must be: original, three-dimensional, suitable for outdoor installation and able to be structurally secured to a concrete pad, capable of withstanding adverse weather conditions and high traffic areas and safe for children, suitable for family viewing. Works deemed unsafe, overly fragile, or otherwise unsuitable will not be considered for the exhibition. GRANT OPPORTUNITY: NEW WORK PROJECT GRANTS

The Harpo Foundation announces New Work Project Grants, which are made to non-profit organizations in support of new work by under-recognized artists 21 years or older. This production may happen in the context of an installation, public intervention, residency, or exhibition. Project grant funds must be used for costs in direct support of new work by the proposed artist, including artist honorarium. Awards are made of up to $10,000. Deadline for non-profit organizations to submit letters-of-inquiry is April 29, 2015. The Harpo Foundation announces the Grants for Visual Artists, an award which provides direct support to under-recognized artists 21 years or older. Grants are made to support the development of artists' work and a grantee may use their award to support any activity toward that purpose. Awards are made of up to $10,000.
