Exhibition dates are October 9 through October 20. For Sharon Way-Howard, landscape, botanicals, animals, man made objects in landscape and still life form the basis of her imagery beginning early - growing up along Long Island's south shore. Working with a variety of mediums, Sharon relies on representational or realistic painting styles to establish mood or convey nature's beauty. As an elected member of the prestigious Salmagundi Club in NYC she's the only female to date to chair their art committee. She has also formed an Artist Roundtable and Plein Air group there. Embracing Our Differences Display Featuring Philip Costa's "Celebration of Diversity"

Philip Costa was selected by a juried committee to have his work displayed for the Embracing Our Differences competition. His work, "Celebration of Diversity",  will be shown on an enlarged, billboard size display panel - 16 feet wide by 12 feet high - on the Michael J. Grant Campus of Suffolk County Community College. This unique, outdoor display will be shown on October 16 through October 29, with an opening reception on Monday, October 20, 4 - 6 PM; all arte invited to attend. Artists were asked to submit work that interprets and explores the struggles and joys of living in a diverse community.

At the Blue Duck Bakery Café, Riverhead

"POETRY STREET...where every voice is heard!" welcomes writers of all ages to the Blue Duck Bakery Café for this series of "Open Mics", the spoken word project of Susan Dingle for the East End Arts' JumpstART program. The "Open Mics" are hosted by Susan Dingle and Robert "Bubbie" Brown; poets, community advocates, social workers and educators committed to honoring the creativity of all people. Poets, comedians and storytellers are invited to sign up at 1:30 PM; the first 15 writers to sign-up have 3 minutes to perform original work. $5 fee for poets and audience members. EEA's JumpstART program is an innovative public arts collaboration to bring vitality to Downtown Riverhead through partnerships between artists and businesses. ATTENTION ART TEACHERS
East End Arts in partnership with New York State Art Teachers Association is sponsoring art workshops for kids during Youth Art Month (YAM) - March 2015. East End Arts and NYSATA is seeking qualified art teachers to conduct one-hour workshops at East End Arts' Carriage House on Saturday, March 7 and Saturday, March 14. Stipend of $50 per workshop plus $25 material fee will be offered.

CALL FOR ARTISTS The Artisan Project is a new partnership to restore the Historic Grange building in Riverhead. Organizers are looking for local artists, crafters, and collectors of vintage items and antiques to participate in a local Artisan Project selling their goods. CALL FOR ARTISTS The South Street Gallery's 8th Annual 10 x 10 = 100 Art Show and Sale to benefit The North Fork Environmental Council, to be held on December 6, 2014. The South Street Gallery is providing artists with 10 x 10 cradled birch plywood boards. Each work will be sold for $100: 25% of each sale going to the gallery and the remainder split between the artist and the NFEC. Boards are available to be picked up at the gallery Friday through Monday, 12 - 5 PM. The first board is complimentary. Up to two additional boards may be purchased for $7 per board. The finished 10 x 10 works are due at the gallery by Sunday, November 30. SEEKING TEACHING ARTISTS APPLICATIONS The Community Library Friends of the Arts, Inc. is seeking applications from artists of all disciplines interested in teaching classes to adults at the community library in Shirley. They are interested in unique proposals for multi-session classes which actively engage adults with no prior art experience in the creative process. Compensation: $35-$45 hour depending on proposal. Teaching artists are hired on a project basis as private contractors. CALL FOR ARTISTS The bj spoke gallery, a co-op gallery in Huntington, NY, announces their annual competition, EXPO 34, which is open to all fine artists living in the US. It will be judged by Adrienne Rooney, Curatorial Assistant of the Whitney Museum of American Art. OPPORTUNITY FOR ARTISTS Gallery Crossing, located on Peconic Lane in Peconic on the North Fork, is offering a special opportunity for local artists to exhibit their works. The Gallery is seeking artists to exhibit using 25' of dedicated wall space for a two-week period during their 2014 season, which is from May 22 through November 3. Gallery hours are Thursday through Monday from 12 PM to 7 PM. Gallery co-owner Joanne Rosko will curate each exhibition. To participate, there is a $100 non-refundable hanging fee. The artist will receive 70% and the Gallery 30% of all proceeds (after sales tax and any credit card processing fees). To be considered, artwork must be wall mountable, although other formats will also be considered. Artists can submit five photos of their work for consideration, as well as bio and list of all works to be exhibited. CALL FOR SCULPTURE ENTRIES The Brookhaven Arts and Humanities Council along with The Bellport Chamber of Commerce and Bellport Village are accepting submissions for from sculptors for an outdoor sculpture to be permanently installed in the Village of Bellport. Artists must be 18 years of age or older. Work must be: original, three-dimensional, suitable for outdoor installation and able to be structurally secured to a concrete pad, capable of withstanding adverse weather conditions and high traffic areas and safe for children, suitable for family viewing. Works deemed unsafe, overly fragile, or otherwise unsuitable will not be considered for the exhibition. No work can exceed 15 feet in height or weigh more than 500 pounds, due to the limitations of the equipment available to Art in Public Places for installation of the sculptures. SUFFOLK COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY OFFERS HISTORY ALIVE GRANTS Funds Will Support Local History Exhibitions and Publications

The Suffolk County Historical Society is pleased to announce that stipends are available for local history organizations to underwrite the cost of new exhibitions, publications, and special projects. Historical societies are encouraged to apply to the Suffolk County Historical Society for stipends of up to $500, which will be awarded on a rolling basis throughout the year. The SCHS review committee is particularly interested in proposals that are innovative, engage the pubic, and advance the study of Long Island history.
