Opening Reception
Art Exhibit Featuring Daniel Hauben
"No Place Like Home"
5 - 7 PM
At Kapell Gallery, Greenport

The Kapell Gallery is pleased to present "No Place Like Home", a show of paintings by brilliant Bronx, NY artist Daniel Hauben. In one room his sensitive and colorful renderings of the people and streets of New York will be featured. These paintings vividly capture a special moment in the time and space of an ever evolving city. In the second room his beautifully rendered pastel landscapes will be showcased. Paintings range in size from 9" x 12" to 6 ft x 10 ft! Signed and numbered prints will also be for sale. In the days prior to the show, Danny will paint the streets and people of Greenport en plein air, adding an air of suspense to what might appear in the gallery. Look for him near the corner of Front & Main! Also, see this 2012 NYT story about a commission Danny executed for the Bronx Community College North Hall and Library that caught the gallery's attention and led to this show: NY Times Article: Daniel Hauben. As always, complimentary fine wine and food along with great conversation will be offered at the reception. All are welcome, kids too. Danny and his wife Judy Lane will be in attendance. Exhibition dates are August 16 - September 30.

Kapell Gallery, 400 Front Street, Greenport NY

Saturday, August 16

Opening Reception

"Under the Sea" Exhibition Featuring Anna Franklin

5 - 7 PM

At The Crazy Monkey Gallery in Amagansett

Anna was born in a town on the Adriatic Sea in Italy. All of her brothers were fishermen at the time and she, being the youngest of 8 and with a gap of many years in between, was the errand kid for many sea-related activities. Anna learned very early in time about the immense variety of fish, sea creatures, formations of sea beds, the beauty that lies under the sea and the sea plants that rival any flora above. With this series of paintings, Anna wanted to connect with the beautiful sea life and the mysteries it contains, as well as with her childhood memories. Even though she can close her eyes and feel the sting of a jelly fish or the bite of a crab, she smiles at these memories which populate her love for the sea and its creatures, both real and imaginary. Exhibition Dates are August 14 to 31, 2014. Hours are Thursday-Monday, 11-5 PM. For more information, contact the gallery at 631- 267 3627.

HITFest Presents

Shakespeare Under the Stars

"The Tempest"

At Mulford Farm in East Hampton

HITfest brings Shakespeare's most spectacular play to the Hamptons for three glorious weeks from August 6 -24, Wednesdays - Sundays at 7 PM. The Children's Museum of the East End, CMEE, helps HITFest to train kids (of all ages) to create the storm which opens the show. The venue, Mulford Farm, the centerpiece of the East Hampton Historical Society, dates from 1680, only seventy years younger than the play itself! Yet Shakespeare has never graced its grounds. Until now. For more info and tickets, visit http://hitfest.org/the-tempest/.

Paintings by Suzette Acar and Sculptures by Frederick Gelb

At the Remsenburg Academy

In an interesting synergy of creative expression ArtRemsenburg welcomes painter Suzette Acar and sculptor Frederick Gelb in a joint show of their work. Acar is a Turkish-born, multi-talented artist whose earlier paintings were influenced by Fantin Latour, Chardin and Rembrandt. Her more recent abstracts are the product of her new "older and bolder" artistic attitude, and are inspired by nature and motivated by music. Acar's masterful use of vibrant colors is apparent in both her classic and her abstract paintings. Examples of both styles will be featured in this exhibit. Gelb's sculptures are powerful, sensual and athletic with clearly delineated and admired body structure. He sculpts in bronze, wood and metal for both public installations and private homes. The work is so interestingly detailed and has so many different side views that many of the pieces are mounted on revolving bases. Gelb is not bound by a single formula style, so his shows have the exciting sense of a multiple sculptor exhibit. Hours: Fridays-Saturdays 1 - 5 PM; Sundays 12 - 4 PM; or by appointment call 917-582-5846 (Acar) or 516-238-7515 (Gelb).
