Long Island Winterfest Live On The Vine organizers are soliciting proposals from qualified web designers and developers to redesign the site, incorporating new features, an updated interface, and the latest web technologies.

An Artist Reception will be held on Saturday, May 24, 3:30 - 5:00 PM. Karen Bell sees nature in ways that many people are often too busy to notice. In this mini- retrospective of photographs and artist books, Karen displays her love of art and nature. Karen Bell's photographs and artist books have been exhibited and collected widely including: The Brooklyn Museum, Ellis Island Immigration Museum, New York Public Library, The Center for Book Arts. She has received grants from Lower Manhattan Cultural Council/Governors Island, The New School and fellowships to Yaddo and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.

Open call for artist participation in the upcoming juried, all media art show COMPOSITION at the East End Arts Gallery in Riverhead. Gallery Director Jane Kirkwood encourages artists: "No matter how skilled the painter, sculptor, photographer, collagist, or quilter, if the composition is 'off' it will never feel completely comfortable to view. Enter a piece that shows your command of this most fundamental element of good art." Guest juror for this show is Eric Brown, Artist and Co-Owner, Tibor de Nagy Gallery, NYC. OPPORTUNITY FOR ARTISTS Gallery Crossing, located on Peconic Lane in Peconic on the North Fork, is offering a special opportunity for local artists to exhibit their works. The Gallery is seeking artists to exhibit using 25' of dedicated wall space for a two-week period during their 2014 season, which is from May 22 through November 3. Gallery hours are Thursday through Monday from 12 PM to 7 PM. Gallery co-owner Joanne Rosko will curate each exhibition. To participate, there is a $100 non-refundable hanging fee. The artist will receive 70% and the Gallery 30% of all proceeds (after sales tax and any credit card processing fees). To be considered, artwork must be wall mountable, although other formats will also be considered. CALL FOR ARTIST APPLICATIONS: Artist-in-Residence Program in Orient, NY The William Steeple Davis Trust of Orient, Long Island is now accepting applications for an artist-in-residence for the period of October 15, 2014 through October 1, 2015. Applications are due by June 1, 2014. The William Steeple Davis Trust artist-in-residence program was established in 1976 under the will of Mr. Davis to "provide a temporary place of abode for persons of good character who are or have been actively engaged in cultural professions, particularly in the arts, and who are without adequate funds to provide for such accommodations." Past residents' endeavors have included painting, photography, writing, sculpting, poetry and music. The Davis house and studio are located in Orient, on the eastern end of the North Fork of Long Island, New York, approximately 100 miles from New York City. CALLING ALL ARTISTS The Remsenburg Academy is sponsoring a mixed media collaborative show titled "Clothing Optional". What does this mean? Whatever artists want it to mean. It's time for some summer fun (and fewer outer layers) after our long, polar-like winter. Artists are invited to present their vision in the form of paintings, sculpture, photographs, 3-D computer graphics, or videos. Please submit a short bio or current CVS, along with 6"-10" images of your work in PDF format to: Ine Wijtvliet at whitefleet@rcn.com or Lisa Mendelson at jimmy11118@aol.com. Please also include a few short sentences as to why you selected the works you chose, and how they relate to the theme. No more than 3 submissions per artist will be considered. CALL FOR ENTRIES: SUFFOLK COUNTY'S crapSHOOT VIDEO CONTEST Suffolk County needs everyone's help to improve the county's water quality by getting the word out about Nitrogen pollution and being SepticSmart! The goal of the contest is to communicate the Nitrogen pollution issue and illustrate ways that target audiences such as homeowners, gardeners, farmers, pet owners, communities and others can improve water quality by changing simple behaviors. Suffolk County is looking for film or video submissions in the following two categories: (a) 30 or 60 second video that is usable as a TV public service announcement, or (b) 1-3 minute short film. Six winning videos will be chosen. Entries must be received by August 1, 2014. The winning entries and honorable mentions will have their work screened at The Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington on September 22, 2014 for SepticSmart week! CALL FOR ARTISTS: Exhibit at Reichert Family Center's Cosden Price Gallery in 2014 The Southold Historical Society is committed to working with local artists and not-for-profits who would like to utilize this new exhibition space during periods when the Society is not using it for their purposes. The Historical Society is beginning to schedule for the 2014 Exhibition Season. They have a number of spots that have already filled, and a number still available. PROMOTE YOUR WORK  Patch.com is offering an exciting FREE publicity opportunity for artists. The community news website has created a column called First Impressions - where an image of artwork is posted each week and readers respond by writing comments about what the work means to them. At the end of the week, the artist posts what they were thinking when they created the piece. Click on the title above to see the first installment featuring local photographer Meryl Spiegel's Scissored, from her Phantoms series. Patch is looking for artists to participate. All you need is a jpg of an image of your work (size: at least 72 dpi, at least 6 x 6 inches) and a paragraph describing what you were thinking when you created the artwork. 2014 GRANT OPEN FOR SUBMISSIONS The Creative Capital | Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant Program supports writers whose work addresses contemporary visual art through project-based grants, ranging from $5,000 to $50,000, issued directly to twenty individual authors a year. The program was founded in recognition of both the financially precarious situation of arts writers and their indispensable contribution to a vital artistic culture. The Arts Writers Grant Program aims to support the broad spectrum of writing on contemporary visual art, from general-audience criticism to academic scholarship. Writers who meet the program's eligibility requirements are invited to apply in the following categories: Articles, Blogs, Books, New and Alternative Media, Short-Form Writing. Submission deadline is Wednesday, May 21, 2014. Due to legal constraints this grant can only fund U.S. citizens, permanent residents of the United States, and holders of O-1 visas. SUFFOLK COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY OFFERS HISTORY ALIVE GRANTS Funds Will Support Local History Exhibitions and Publications

The Suffolk County Historical Society is pleased to announce that stipends are available for local history organizations to underwrite the cost of new exhibitions, publications, and special projects. Historical societies are encouraged to apply to the Suffolk County Historical Society for stipends of up to $500, which will be awarded on a rolling basis throughout the year. The SCHS review committee is particularly interested in proposals that are innovative, engage the pubic, and advance the study of Long Island history.
