Friday August, 16
Opening Reception
Art Show featuring Barbara Maslen "Harvesting the Land and Sea"
5 - 8 PM
At Remsenburg Academy
Barbara Maslen on her new series "Harvesting the Land & Sea": "This is a celebration of working with one's hands, and the joy of reaping a harvest from your efforts. In examining man's relationship to nature, the figures are at one with, or even absorbed by their surroundings, capturing that moment of bliss and total absorption with the task at hand. They are not meant as portraits, but anonymous "everyman" intent on their work. At the same time, my work is about paint and painting, my working with my hands... as much as it is about the subject depicted." Exhibit runs: August 16 - Labor Day, September 2, 2013. Gallery hours Friday, Saturday, Sunday 11 AM - 6 PM or by appointment: maslen@optonline.net. For more information: www.barbaramaslen.com

ARTISTS: Got health insurance? Future of Music Coalition (FMC) and Artists' Health Insurance Resource Center (AHIRC) are conducting an online survey through August 31 to assess how many US-based artists have health insurance on the eve of the Affordable Care Act. Prior surveys have found that artists of all types - dancers, actors, musicians, visual artists, filmmakers - are less likely to be insured than the general working population. With the rollout of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) this year and next, FMC and AHIRC want to know: how many artists are presently insured? What are the factors that make it difficult to get insured under current conditions? What are artists' expectations about the ACA, and will its rollout change their behaviors about health insurance coverage in the future? To participate in the survey: http://www.research.net/s/artistsandhealthinsurance. All answers are anonymous and confidential, and the survey should take about 10 minutes to complete. Your participation will help us shape the educational materials and offerings that we create in the coming months. Thank you!
