The East End Challenge is a contest for high school students from the East End of Long Island who are invited to create a work of Art & Science that will be shown in the East End Seaport Museum at the 2013 exhibition,
The Bays Around Us, A Tribute to Rachel Carson. Through this contest and exhibit, The East End Seaport Museum hopes to encourage young people to observe and help shape the future of our increasingly fragile Long Island environment, for that future is theirs. The Challenge is open to all high school students of both the North and South Forks of Long Island, including Riverhead. To paraphrase Einstein, looking at what everyone else is looking at and seeing what no one else is seeing. Cash prize awards of up to $1,000 for winning entries. All finalists selected will receive $100. Students must first submit an application with an outline and description of their proposed project. A Message from our friends at the Suffolk Theater...
The Historic Suffolk Theater is Open!!
After many years of hard work, the Suffolk Theater in downtown Riverhead has finally re-opened. The theater first opened in 1933 with great fanfare, and now in 2013 ... eighty years later ... there's even more excitement as this beautiful art-deco cinema has been restored to a cabaret style performing arts center. The Suffolk Theater is on Main Street. And the beautiful electronic marquee lights up downtown Riverhead, serving as a beacon for first class entertainment.
There are 30 days of shows in March. Almost every night in March has something exciting and interesting and wonderful to experience. This is nightclub style theater.
For the complete schedule of concerts, movies, musical and theatrical events check out suffolktheater.com.
