at East End Seaport Museum

Deadline for Entries: March 4, 2013

The East End Challenge is a contest for high school students from the East End of Long Island who are invited to create a work of Art & Science that will be shown in the East End Seaport Museum at the 2013 exhibition, The Bays Around Us, A Tribute to Rachel Carson. Through this contest and exhibit, The East End Seaport Museum hopes to encourage young people to observe and help shape the future of our increasingly fragile Long Island environment, for that future is theirs. The Challenge is open to all high school students of both the North and South Forks of Long Island, including Riverhead. To paraphrase Einstein, looking at what everyone else is looking at and seeing what no one else is seeing. Cash prize awards of up to $1,000 for winning entries. All finalists selected will receive $100. Students must first submit an application with an outline and description of their proposed project. The deadline for application entry is March 4, 2013.

PROMOTE YOUR WORK
Patch.com
is offering an exciting FREE publicity opportunity for artists. The community news website has created a column called First Impressions - where an image of artwork is posted each week and readers respond by writing comments about what the work means to them. At the end of the week, the artist posts what they were thinking when they created the piece. Click on the title above to see the first installment featuring local photographer Meryl Spiegel's Scissored, from her Phantoms series. Patch is looking for artists to participate. All you need is a jpg of an image of your work (size: at least 72 dpi, at least 6 x 6 inches) and a paragraph describing what you were thinking when you created the artwork. Email the image and descriptive paragraph with your name, town of residence, name of the work, medium, and artist website to Meryl Spiegel: meryl@merylspiegel.com. Please also notify if you are a member of East End Arts. Meryl will contact you if your work is selected. Take advantage of this great opportunity for FREE artist publicity!
