OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS: EEA's DIVERSITY ART SHOW  Open call for artist participation in the upcoming juried, all media art show, Diversity, at the East End Arts Gallery in Riverhead. Gallery Director Jane Kirkwood encourages artists to: "Identify ways you are personally diverse (apart from the norm). Be it culturally, physically, stylistically, psychologically, etc., own it and explore it in your art." Judging all genres, the guest juror of this show, Frank Wimberley, has been regarded as one of the preeminent artists on the East End for over 40 years. Original works in all media may be submitted, including: painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, video, sculpture and poetry; up to three entries can be submitted per artist. Entries will be accepted on Thursday, January 10; Friday, January 11; and Saturday, January 12 from 10AM to 4PM at the EEA Gallery. Show dates are January 18 through March 8, 2013, with a reception on Friday, February 1, 2013. For artists who elect to participate, there are two additional opportunities: a second eligibility to exhibit art at the Suffolk County Historical Society for a show of the same theme, as well as an opportunity for one artist to have their entry selected to be the featured artwork for the East End Arts 2013 Spring Gala. OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS: EEA Members' Show - ORIGINS
Open call for artist participation in the upcoming non-juried, all media Members' art show, Origins, at the East End Arts Gallery in Riverhead. A tree begins as a seedling, or acorn. Rain starts as a cloud. An individual originates from ancestors who originated from different cultures or continents... or species. Gallery Director Jane Kirkwood encourages artists to "bring your subject back to some sort of beginning... its origin." Original work only, no reproductions. Acceptable entries include painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, sculpture and poetry; one entry per member. All work must be dropped off in person at the East End Arts Gallery in Riverhead on March 7 from 10 to 4, March 8 from 10 to 4, or March 9 from 10 to 3. H2O comes in many forms. Rain, fog, ice, puddles, snow, tears, etc. Choose any and let your creativity flow for the artwork entered into this show. Two-Dimensional media only. Artists may enter up to five works for $45. Entries will be accepted through online entry form only. Submission deadlines: April 17, 2013, with an extended deadline of April 20, 2013 (additional fee applies.) Guest jurors are Peter J. Click on the title above to see the first installment featuring local photographer Meryl Spiegel's Scissored, from her Phantoms series. Patch is looking for artists to participate. All you need is a jpg of an image of your work (size: at least 72 dpi, at least 6 x 6 inches) and a paragraph describing what you were thinking when you created the artwork.  CALL FOR ARTISTS: Art League of Long Island's 56th Long Island Artists Exhibition The Art League of Long Island is accepting applications from artists residing in Suffolk, Nassau, Brooklyn, and Queens for their 56th Long Island Artists Exhibition taking place March 10 through April 14, 2013. Entry is limited to two original works not previously exhibited in the Art League's Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery, only one of which may be selected. Two and three-dimensional work in any medium may be submitted, including photography and fine crafts (one exception - no videos). Application deadline is January 18, 2013. $500 Awards of Excellence and Honorable Mentions of one-year memberships in the Art League will be given at the discretion of the judge. CALL FOR ARTISTS: "Portraits" Submissions The Huntington Arts Council is now accepting entries for their 11th Annual Juried Portrait Show to be held March 15 through April 22, 2013 at the Main Street Petite Gallery in Huntington, NY. This show will be juried by award-winning artist Jeanette Martone. Open to all artists. Those who receive Best in Show and Honorable Mention will participate in the "Masters Show" at the Huntington Arts Council's Main Street Petite Gallery in June 2013. CALL FOR ARTISTS: Apply for solo shows or group shows at the Remsenburg Academy Emerging and established artists who work in any media are encouraged to apply. All styles, subjects and themes are welcome including local themes specific to the East End of Long Island. Group for the East End Seeking Volunteer Photographers
Volunteers are needed to photograph the Group's environmental educators in action during classroom and field trip lessons. Please e-mail kfullam@eastendenvironment.org if you are interested in helping out. Weekday, daytime hours only. Opportunity lasts from now until June 2013. The Group will provide a tax letter for professional photographers who donate their time.

GRANT FOR COMPOSERS: MetLife Creative ConnectionsMetLife Creative Connections provides support for American composers to participate in public activities related to specific performances of their original music. By supporting the composer's interaction with audiences, performers, arts organizations, and local communities, Metlife Creative Connections aims to increase public awareness and enhance the creative artist's role in society. Now accepting applications for public activity taking place during April through August, 2013. There will be no April 1st deadline this year. Application deadline is January 7, 2013. CALL FOR ARTIST APPLICATIONS: NYFA 2013 ARTISTS' FELLOWSHIPS NYFA's online application for the 2013 Artists' Fellowships is now open. Artists' Fellowships are $7,000 unrestricted cash awards made to individual originating artists living and working in the state of New York. Grants are awarded in 15 artistic disciplines, with applications accepted in five categories each year. Since the awards began in 1985, NYFA has awarded over $27 million to over 4,400 artists. RELIEF FUND FOR ARTISTS IN CT, NJ and NY IMPACTED BY HURRICANE SANDY The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) is pleased to announce the creation of an emergency relief fund to support individual artists in all disciplines impacted by Hurricane Sandy. The application will be posted on www.nyfa.org and www.artspire.org and submissions will be accepted on a rolling basis. The program will be open to literary, media, performing and visual artists residing in Connecticut, New Jersey and New York. The fund is being launched with a $1 million leadership gift from the Andy Warhol Foundation, the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation and the Lambent Foundation, with additional support from individual donors and organizations who have held fundraisers, auctions and other events to support artists in need.

   

 

APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN: EMERGENCY RELIEF RESIDENCIES AT THE VERMONT STUDIO CENTER The Pollock-Krasner Foundation, Inc., as part of its Hurricane Sandy Emergency Relief Fund is collaborating with the Vermont Studio Center to assist visual artists who have experienced damage, losses, and/or displacement due to Hurricane Sandy by providing 4-week to 8-week studio residencies at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, VT. Eligible professional visual artists can be working in any discipline and must reside in Connecticut, New Jersey, or New York. Impacts may include loss of work, loss of or damage to studio space, interruption of creative routine, or displacement. Applications are accepted and awarded on a rolling basis with residencies scheduled beginning January 2013. For more information please visit
