Artist Reception for Art Show featuring eclectic, playful art by sculptor, producer and author Jonathan Pearlman

2:30 - 4:30 PM

Quogue Library

Jonathan Pearlman's sculptures are an extension of his eclectic and whimsical view of the world we inhabit. He has always been interested in what lies beneath the surface and in his sculptures he transforms everyday objects into a new, imaginative form. Whether it's wheels, brushes or shoes, his goal is that the viewer of the final piece will discover the intrinsic beauty that exists even in the most mundane objects. Although he has no formal training in art, he was influenced by his life-long friendship with Swiss illustrator and sculptor Paul Degen. In the summer of 2012 he had his second one-man sculpture exhibit at the Water Mill Museum and was the sole juror for the East End Arts Gallery "Found Objects" show. Jonathan's art is included in several private collections on Long Island. Jonathan sculpts and writes in his studio in East Quogue, New York. His exhibit will be on display from December 1 to January 2. All are welcome.

ARTIST OPPORTUNITIES

OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS: DIVERSITY ART SHOW  Open call for artist participation in the upcoming juried, all media art show, Diversity, at the East End Arts Gallery in Riverhead. Gallery Director Jane Kirkwood encourages artists to: "Identify ways you are personally diverse (apart from the norm). Be it culturally, physically, stylistically, psychologically, etc., own it and explore it in your art." Judging all genres, the guest juror of this show, Frank Wimberley, has been regarded as one of the preeminent artists on the East End for over 40 years. Original works in all media may be submitted, including: painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, video, sculpture and poetry; up to three entries can be submitted per artist. Entries will be accepted on Thursday, January 10; Friday, January 11; and Saturday, January 12 from 10AM to 4PM at the EEA Gallery. Show dates are January 18 through March 8, 2013, with a reception on Friday, February 1, 2013. For artists who elect to participate, there are two additional opportunities: a second eligibility to exhibit art at the Suffolk County Historical Society for a show of the same theme, as well as an opportunity for one artist to have their entry selected to be the featured artwork for the East End Arts 2013 Spring Gala. For all details, view the full prospectus at: http://eastendarts.org/Temp2013/DiversityProsp.pdf.

PROMOTE YOUR WORK
Patch.com
is offering an exciting FREE publicity opportunity for artists. The community news website has created a column called First Impressions - where an image of artwork is posted each week and readers respond by writing comments about what the work means to them. At the end of the week, the artist posts what they were thinking when they created the piece. Click on the title above to see the first installment featuring local photographer Meryl Spiegel's Scissored, from her Phantoms series. Patch is looking for artists to participate. All you need is a jpg of an image of your work (size: at least 72 dpi, at least 6 x 6 inches) and a paragraph describing what you were thinking when you created the artwork. Email the image and descriptive paragraph with your name, town of residence, name of the work, medium, and artist website to Meryl Spiegel: meryl@merylspiegel.com. Please also notify if you are a member of East End Arts. Meryl will contact you if your work is selected. Take advantage of this great opportunity for FREE artist publicity!
