Maritime Heritage of the North Fork Festival, a Signature Series Event of Arts Alive Long Island, will run throughout October from Riverhead to Orient, sponsored by Sea Tow. To highlight the arts across Long Island, a collaborative of North Fork organizations will host arts, cultural and community events or programs with themes celebrating Long Island's maritime past, present and future. This is a highlight of Long Island's first island-wide, multi-venue arts festival, Arts Alive Long Island, produced by Long Island Arts Alliance.

 

East End Arts together with Peconic Landing, East End Seaport Museum, and Brecknock Hall Foundation, as part of the Arts Alive Long Island, presents these FREE events:

Maritime Inspired Art, a juried exhibit

Meet the artists! Refreshments will be served.

Of 93 entries, 28 were selected for inclusion in the show, with one 'Best in Show' prize awarded to Michael Withers for his color reduction print entitled Catch of the Day.

 

Songs of the Sea performed by Frank Hendricks

6:30 - 7:30 PM  |  Part of East End Arts' Third Thursdays Series

Sea shanty singer Frank Hendricks will present a fascinating discussion about the songs used by nineteenth century sailors for both work and recreation; shanties were the work songs of the tall ships.

The Maritime Heritage of the North Fork Festival is a collaborative of North Fork organizations hosting events and programs of this theme, coordinated by East End Arts, Peconic Landing, East End Seaport Museum, and Brecknock Hall Foundation, as part of the Arts Alive Long Island, a month long festival debuting this October - National Arts and Humanities Month - showcasing Long Island's world-class arts and culture, the arts across Long Island, is presented by the Long Island Arts Alliance and sponsored by Bethpage Federal Credit Union with additional support from the Long Island Community Foundation, media partner WNET/WLIW and transportation partner, the Long Island Railroad.
