CLEAN & CLEAR Dermatologist, Dr. Bowe dishes skincare tips for athletes

Are you breaking out during volleyball season? This is called "acne mechanica" and can be managed! Acne mechanica is the type of acne that results from repetitive rubbing against the skin-think uniform. Make sure you cleanse immediately after practice with either a salicylic acid cleanser or wipe pads with salicylic acid over the areas that tend to break out immediately after practice. Try to stick to lotions and oil-free products that won't clog your pores and make matters worse!
When dealing with acne mechanica, factors like excess heat, pressure, friction and rubbing can all lead to acne flare ups anywhere on your face or body. Stay conscious of dried sweat that can build up during practice or games. Dr. Bowe recommends keeping wipes like the CLEAN & CLEARŪ Makeup Dissolving Facial Cleansing Wipes nearby to quickly remove built-up sweat. Other ways to help prevent your pores from clogging include using either an electronic face brush or an exfoliating scrub twice a week after a steamy shower. Don't overdo it, though, because you can strip your skin of healthy fats that protect you from drying out.
Make sure to stop by the CLEAN & CLEAR booth to wash your face after you're done playing!
