Focus on Recruiting

Big South is the largest volleyball tournament in the country and we want to make it easier for you to get watched by college recruiters this weekend. We've teamed up with University Athlete and TouchStat to provide discounts to a new service that will allow you to push video of your team and individual highlights of a particular player, right to the software that almost every college coach uses for recruiting at Big South.

University Athlete is the recruiting database that virtually every college coach in the country uses. It's not a recruiting service. At Big South, colleges use University Athlete Recruiter (UAR) on their iPhones and Androids to find and evaluate hundreds of players. The schedule, roster and basic athlete information of every team in 14s through 18s is embedded in UAR.

Even more importantly University Athlete offers free profiles to every player. This allows athletes to enter accurate information important to college coaches that will override mistakes that might be made when the roster is entered by a club director or team representative. There are also almost 100 fields that allow athletes to give a broad athletic and academic overview important to college recruiters. Because college coaches pay for this service, it's free to athletes.

Getting a free login and making sure that your information is accurate is the absolute best way to ensure that college coaches can find or identify you at Big South. Since every account request is reviewed by an administrator to protect the members, it's best to request your account as soon as possible. To request a free log in, go to https://universityathlete.com/new_athlete. If you already got an account, but forgot the password, go to  https://universityathlete.com/request.

TouchStat is a family of software that allows coaches to easily break up video and stats to create short clips to teach their players how to be better. TouchStat just released an iOS app for iPhone and iPad that allows you to make an individual highlight or team warmup video at Big South and push it straight into the UAR recruiting software of every college coach when they update their schedules.

The software is called TouchStat Highlight UA and is available on the iTunes Store at https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/highlight-ua/id624646634?mt=8. It requires a free athlete login from universityathlete.com. Download an instructional PDF at http://www.touchstat.com/files/HilightUAmanual.pdf.

For Big South, if you use coupon code bigsouth2013 you will get a free individual upload if you upload a team warm up AND, the team upload is 50% off. You get two uploads for $9.99. Also, you can replace a video once during the tournament if you like.

TouchStat will have a tech support representative at the University Athlete Booth near Court 67 Friday and Saturday from 9am to 1pm and 3pm till 6pm.

"Focus on Recruiting" Seminar

Big South wants to help you leverage technology to improve your recruiting exposure using free and low cost tools. We will have two free seminars open to anyone with a Big South wristband in Room B206 Friday and Saturday at 2pm. This is between waves to make it most accessible to as many people as possible.

A representative of University Athlete and TouchStat, as well as one or more college coaches will be on hand to offer ideas on how to prepare and promote an athlete's profile to help them find the right fit.

Topics will include:

  • Making sure the correct data gets to recruiters
  • Finding a win-win fit between athlete and future team
  • Do's and Don'ts
  • What college coaches care about and what they don't
  • Using video as bait
  • Q&A

Please keep in mind that college coaches have restrictions about what questions they can answer from parents and athletes. They will not be able to discuss their particular school or speak to anyone about a particular player. Seating is limited and will be restricted to the first 200 attendants with wristbands.
