Quicksheets, A Resource for Everyone

Beyond calling 2-1-1 or searching our online database, Quicksheets are available for each of our 19 counties in the region. While Quicksheets are by no means a comprehensive list of resources available in each county, they are a convenient and easy to use, one page guide that list key referrals and their local telephone numbers. Quicksheets are packed full of information that is helpful to have on hand. Everything from your local health department, hospital, childcare and a dozen other social services. There is even a listing of some of the area food pantries on the reverse side.

My United Way 2-1-1 Quicksheets were created to help non-profit agencies and businesses provide support and assistance to their clients as quickly and efficiently as possible. Quicksheets are also mailed to callers when needed.

We are committed to maintaining current Quicksheets for the people we serve, which is why we update them quarterly to ensure accuracy. Anyone can access our Quicksheets by going to our website, www.MyUnitedWay2-1-1.org, and clicking on the Reports & Publications tab. Then select the desired county.

Prepared to Learn

For most children, summer break has just begun and the thought of a new box of crayons on their school supply list is filled with cannonballs in the pool. Here at 2-1-1 though, we are already thinking ahead to the possible needs of our callers.

Every child deserves to start the school year with the supplies they need to succeed. Unfortunately, the added expenses to prepare children to return to school can be unattainable for families already struggling to make ends meet. Many families find it difficult to pay for housing and food, and simply do not have the extra money for the school supplies their children need.

To help families offset Back-to-School costs, organizations are stepping-up to help. Nonprofit groups, corporations, local charities and churches are teaming up together to hold events that not only provide free school supplies, but also provide required health services like immunizations and physicals.

Call 2-1-1 for specific Back-to-School program details, locations, registration, times and dates. Our Specialists will connect those in need of Back-to-School services and programs to local community organizations.

Pointed in the Right Direction

Facing the possibility of becoming homeless, a couple called 2-1-1 for help. The specialist who took the call began an Ihope assessment with the couple. As the conversation progressed it was discovered that the man was a Veteran and a candidate for SSVF, a homeless assistance program for area Veterans and their families. My United Way 2-1-1 does in-depth Ihope assessments for this program and then sends the information to Brightpoint. In addition to the assessment the couple was given information to help with additional needs. About a week later 2-1-1 was contacted by a case manager from Brightpoint who happened to have just met with the couple that the specialist had done the assessment for. She reported that they had nothing but GREAT things to say about 2-1-1 and that the specialist had helped them immensely. The couple said how much they appreciated everything the specialist did for them. The case worker was happy to report that the couple was able to avoid becoming homeless and is receiving housing assistance from Brightpoint.

Pregnant and not sure where to start, 17 year old Brianna* called 2-1-1. She wanted information on child care expense assistance so that she could continue to attend school after giving birth to her child. Brianna was referred to Brightpoint to apply for CCDF and to the Franciscan Center for diapers. She told the specialist that she had already been in contact with Women's Care Center. In a follow-up call with Brianna, she expressed how thankful she was for the information she was given. She said that she now has a case manager who is helping to guide her in reaching her goal of finishing her education while making sure her baby is taken care of by a licensed child care provider.

Agency Spotlight
On May 6th it was announced that Community Action of Northeast Indiana (CANI) would now be called Brightpoint to better reflect the work that is being done by the non-profit. This was after thorough and careful research done by the board of directors. Instead of just treating the symptoms of poverty, Brighpoint seeks to transition individuals and families out of poverty and into a brighter future. Brightpoint's President and CEO, Steve Hoffman said in a statement "We're very excited about the way this new identity reflects our mission and supports our distinctive role within the community."

Along with the exciting news of their name change, Brightpoint is also celebrating 50 years of service. Brightpoint, for a brighter future, offers more than 20 programs and serves more than 35,000 people across 12 northeast Indiana counties. Programs focus around Family Stability, Family Self-Sufficiency, Child and Youth Development, Community Investment and their Brightpoint Development Fund. Counties served include Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Elkhart, Grant, Huntington, Kosciusko, Lagrange, Noble, Steuben, Wells and Whitley. Specific Programs vary by county. Most programs are free, but each program does have specific income limits and other requirements.
