Matching Funds Available for New and Increased Gifts
Robert Goldstine
United Way of Allen County has received a multi-year grant from the Robert Goldstine Foundation that was put in place to stimulate leadership donations from individuals or their private foundations/donor advised funds, which will serve as a match for new and increased leadership gifts of at least $1,000.

The gift from Goldstine Foundation is in addition to funds already in place from the Indiana Association of United Ways, matching leadership gifts dollar for dollar. By leveraging both grants that match new or increased leadership gifts ($1,000 or more), a donor can potentially triple the impact of their gift to United Way.

The IaUW grant also matches new gifts of at least $100 and increased gifts of at least $500 dollar for dollar; and matches increased gifts between $100 and $500 at 50 cents on the dollar. If you have questions about these grants or you're interested in doubling or tripling the impact of your gift, contact Chris Rouse at 469-4001 or [email protected] or click here for more information.
Free Tax Preparation Program Kicks Off
The Free Tax Prep Program kicked off in late January and will run through April 13, 2013. Any family or individual earning less than $57,000 annually qualifies for the Free Tax Preparation program organized by members of the Financial Stability Partnership. IRS-certified volunteer tax preparers help residents file their taxes and claim available credits, including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Credits may help families get as much as a $5,000 refund. Last year, more than 2,000 people used this free service to claim more than $3 million in tax refunds. Day of Caring is Coming Up!
United Way's annual Day of Caring will be held on Thursday, August 1. If you're interested in having a team or you need help with a project, contact Kelly Wehman at [email protected] or 469-4009. In past years, more than a thousand volunteers fan out in the community to help complete more than 70 projects at private residences, non-profits and schools. This annual event embodies the true spirit of what it means to LIVE UNITED.

2-1-1 Annual Report Published

211 with LHN

United Way of Allen County's 2-1-1 Services, supported by Lutheran Health Network, published its annual report. 2-1-1 Services continue to expand to meet more needs in Northeast Indiana. The program initially covered 10 counties: Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, Wabash, Wells and Whitley. As of January 2013, 2-1-1 now covers Blackford, Grant and Jay counties as well, making the total counties served 13.

2-1-1 is a national dialing code for free access to health and human service information and referral. Since the first full year of 2-1-1 Services in 2004, the call volume has grown a tremendous 119 percent. By dialing the three simple numbers of 2-1-1, most Northeast Indiana residents can get free, confidential and 24-hour information from trained call specialists about more than 2,100 local social services, such as housing, shelter, food, legal aid, clothing, counseling, utility assistance, health care, transportation and more. To find out more about 2-1-1 Services, visit www.211northeastindiana.org.
