United Way has developed a website,  www.UWEducationNetwork.org, where a person interested in volunteering can find a "one-stop shop" of local opportunities. Check out the site today and find your spot to help kids in our community!

2012-2013 Community Campaign Off to a Positive Start

United Way's Community Campaign officially kicked off in late August and is off to a tremendous start. Pacesetter workplace campaigns, such as Swiss Re and UPS, and new campaigns, such as Medical Protective, Vera Bradley, Baden Retirement Plan Services and Accugear an AAM Company, have started the 2012-13 campaign at an all-time high. Many of the seasoned campaigns that typically run in the fall, such as General Motors, Meijer and Raytheon, have shown encouraging increases in their employee participation and total dollars raised.

Follow us on Facebook to keep up with campaigns both new and old and keep up with the exciting things our partners in the community are doing to LIVE UNITED!

If you're interested in starting a workplace campaign or have any questions, contact Chris Rouse, director of resource development, at 260-469-4001 or chrisr@uwacin.org.

Matching Funds Available for New and Increased Gifts
Robert Goldstine
United Way of Allen County has received a multi-year grant from the Robert Goldstine Foundation that was put in place to stimulate leadership donations from individuals or their private foundations/donor advised funds, which will serve as a match for new and increased leadership gifts of at least $1,000.

The gift from Goldstine Foundation is in addition to funds already in place from the Indiana Association of United Ways, matching leadership gifts dollar for dollar. By leveraging both grants that match new or increased leadership gifts ($1,000 or more), a donor can potentially triple the impact of their gift to United Way.

The IaUW grant also matches new gifts of at least $100 and increased gifts of at least $500 dollar for dollar; and matches increased gifts between $100 and $500 at 50 cents on the dollar. If you have questions about these grants or you're interested in doubling or tripling the impact of your gift, contact Chris Rouse at 469-4001 or chrisr@uwacin.org or click here for more information.
Women United Needs Purse Donations!
W

United Way's volunteer Women United group has set Thursday May 9, 2013 as the date for the next Power of the Purse. The event will be held at Turnstone and is Women United's signature fundraising event for early childhood initiatives. Power of the Purse includes live and silent auctions of extraordinary purses, time for networking and plenty of social time.

Women United members are currently asking for purses to be donated for the auction at the event. Designer and celebrity purses have made Power of the Purse successful in the past and volunteers are hoping to recruit similar, quality handbags for 2013. In years past, celebrities such as Heather Headley, Shelley Long and Robin Roberts have donated purses as well as local artists, such as Terry Ratliff and Karen Moriarty, who have designed purses.

If you have a purse you would like to donate or know a celebrity willing to donate, please contact Kelly Wehman at kellyw@uwacin.org.

2-1-1 Receives National Reaccreditation

211 logo

United Way of Allen County's 2-1-1 Services received national reaccreditation from the Alliance of Information and Referral Systems (AIRS) through June 2017. AIRS is the professional organization for Information and Referral providers across the country and provides accreditation as well as certification of 2-1-1 call specialists.

2-1-1 is a national dialing code for free access to health and human service information and referral. Since the first full year of 2-1-1 Services in 2004, the call volume has grown a tremendous 118 percent. By dialing the three simple numbers of 2-1-1, most northeast Indiana residents can get free, confidential and 24-hour information from trained call specialists about as many as 2,000 local social services, such as housing, shelter, food, legal aid, clothing, counseling, utility assistance, health care, transportation and more. To find out more about 2-1-1 Services, visit www.211northeastindiana.org.

Special Thanks to Health Fair Participants!

United Way and Organized Labor held the 20th Annual Community Health Fair on October 5 with approximately 400 participants. We'd like to extend our thanks to our partners who helped make it a success: Turnstone, Parkview Home Health and Hospice, Parkview North Hospital Laboratories, Organized Labor volunteers and more than 40 companies and partner agencies who donated their time, facility and services.

With a wide variety of screenings, flu shots and resources offered at the Community Health Fair, this event is important for unemployed, underemployed and the senior population as a cost-saving alternative. We are truly grateful for this collaboration of work!
