February Update from
The Center

Greetings!

February at The Center is a great month for artists and art appreciators alike! The second round of winter classes begins soon and there is a beautiful exhibit called, "Line, Color and Surface" in the galleries.

For those who prefer to "think spring," registration will open later this month for spring classes, and a dynamic committee is already at work planning for the return of "Hooray for May!" If you are ready to think summer, registration is open now for children's summer art camps!

Please read on...

Summer Art Camp

Registration is now open for 2015 Summer Art Camps! This year we have made some exciting changes to the program based on parent feedback. From June 29th through August 28th, each summer week will include both half- and full-day options for each of three age groups for artists ages 5 - teen:

Mixed Media Mornings - 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM

Students engage in two-and three-dimensional creative exploration through painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, mixed media, and more.

Afternoon Art - 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Young artists enjoy themed programs that change each week while teens explore a single medium in depth.

Ceramics at CCA

The Center offers the area's only week-long summer ceramics camps in a state-of-the-art studio. Students develop wheel-throwing, hand-building, and glazing skills. Three afternoon sessions are offered for each age group over the course of the summer.

NEW!

  • Full day campers will have a supervised lunch period from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at no extra charge.
  • Daily after-care will be available from 4 to 5:00 PM for $50 per week.
  • A sibling discount will be available for the second child in a single week of camp

Register by March 1st for a $25 discount per week per camper!

"Corporeal Ladder" by Linda Streicher
Members' Juried Exhibit

The Center is pleased to partner with Wallflowers Gallery in Bernardsville for a Members' Juried Exhibition. The show opens on Wednesday, February 4th and remains on view through February 28th. An opening reception will take place on Friday, February 6th from 6-9 p.m. and is free and open to the public. A Best of Show and three Honorable Mentions will be awarded at the reception.

Juror Virginia Fabbri Butera, PhD selected thirty-one pieces from over two hundred entries submitted by members of The Center. In explaining her choices for the exhibition Butera said, "I wanted to choose objects for the show that pushed in some way against the boundaries of their medium, style, subject matter, and/or metaphoric implications."

Dr. Butera is the Director of the Therese A. Maloney Art Gallery, a tenured Professor of Art History and Chairperson of the Art and the Music Programs at the College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown, N.J. Butera has curated art exhibitions for more than thirty-five years for museums and galleries including the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Toledo Museum of Art and Yale University Art Gallery, and has published and lectured widely during her career.

Wallflowers Gallery is located at 35 Mill Street, Bernardsville. Hours are Tuesday-Friday 10am-6pm, Saturdays 10am-5pm. 908-204-1972
