June Update from
The Center

Greetings!

Great things have been happening at The Center and wonderful events continue to bring first time visitors through our doors. I loved seeing all of the children here at "Hooray for May" so deeply engaged in their art projects. As artists we know and love that feeling of heightened focus when the rest of the world falls away.

Making Mother's Day cards
Hooray for May!

"Hooray for May!," The Center's first free family art day, was a great success! On May 10th over 300 children, accompanied by parents and grand parents, made silly sculptures, painted rocks, zentangles, felt bracelets and Mother's Day cards, wove on hula hoop "looms" and participated in banner-making with artist Dan Fenelon. Familes also enjoyed gallery tours of the "Soft" exhibit led by Trustee Wes Sherman.

Thank you to the Hooray for May! Co-chairs, committee
members and volunteers, and The Center's Board of Trustees for coming together to create this wonderful first time event. A special thank you goes to Investors Bank for their
generous sponsorship support, and to the many other business and in-kind sponsors who supported the event.

Be sure to visit The Center's facebook page to view the Hooray for May! photo album.

Ceramics Program Open House

The Center will hold a "pop-up" gallery exhibit of work by its ceramics program students and faculty from June 9-12. The exhibit will close with an open house event on Thursday, June 12th from 5-7 p.m. Tour the new ceramic studio and glaze room, meet faculty and teachers, learn about classes, see hands-on demos, view the exhibit and enjoy refreshments. We will also be showing off the new wheel-chair accessible pottery wheel.

Summer Art Camps

Registration is ongoing for The Center's popular weekly summer art camps which begin June 30th and run for nine weeks through August. Certain weeks are always more popular than others, and many week-long specialty camps are nearly full!

Summer Art Camps at The Center are designed to stimulate creative expression through theme-based art projects and activities that change each week. Students engage in two-and three-dimensional creative exploration through painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, mixed media, and more.

The Center also offers the area's only week-long summer art camps in ceramics in a new state-of-the-art studio. Students will develop wheel-throwing, hand-building and glazing skills.

Teen Summer "intensives" allow artists 13 years old and above at all levels of expertise to develop or fine tune skills through an in-depth exploration of a single medium or genre including drawing, ceramics, graffiti, photography, animation, oil painting and fashion design. Evening classes are also offered for teens.

Give your child or grandchild a creative summer to remember!

Summer Programs for Adults

Shorter sessions of The Center's year-round adult classes are offered all summer long to fit in with your vacation schedule. Afternoon and evening classes are offered in ceramics and a students can choose from seven different evening classes in a variety of other media that take place on Mondays or Tuesdays. Offerings run the gamut from figure drawing to digital photography.

Summer Saturdays are reserved for one-day workshops in painting, drawing, silverpoint, collage, ceramic surface decoration and more.

Because of a very full schedule of  summer art camps for four age groups, offerings are limited and spaces fill quickly.

 Exhibition Opportunities Reminder

There are several exhibition opportunities coming up for Members and Non-members alike.  June brings the Ceramics Pop-Up Exhibit and the annual Members' Exhibit, and fall signals the return of the International Juried Exhibit.

NEW!
This year, members who enter the 2014 annual Members' Exhibit may have their work selected by the judge for an exhibit at Arts on Division in Somerville. In other words, there will be a juried exhibit selected from the Non-juried Exhibit!
