April Update from
The Center

Greetings!

Spring classes start tomorrow, new exhibits have been installed in the galleries, and bulbs are coming up in the garden beds around The Center. It must really be spring!

Last month was a whirlwind of activity with a record 505 Somerset County children, parents, grandparents and art teachers visiting The Center for Youth Art Month events!

This month we are presenting four new exhibits in our galleries, planning a fabulous family event called "Hooray for May!" and preparing for a wonderful, creative summer.

Spring Exhibits

Four new exhibits of contemporary art open this month. "Soft" is curated by Wes Sherman and presents the work of artists Elisa D'Arrigo, Jeff Hand, Derick Melander and Lucy White in The Center's first floor gallery. New works by Dana McElroy and Rebecca Simon, artists selected from the 2013 International Juried Exhibit, are on view on the second floor. Finally, The Center's first site specific installation by Garam Lee occupies the lobby.

Please join us for the opening reception for all four exhibits this Friday, April 4th from 6-8 p.m.

Spring and Summer
Classes, Art Camps & Workshops

The spring session of classes and workshops begins this week and runs through June! There is still time to sign up for classes with your favorite teachers or try something new.

Weekly summer art camps begin the week of June 30th and run for nine weeks through August. Art camp at The Center is designed to stimulate creative expression through theme-based art projects and activities that change each week. The Center also offers the area's only week-long summer art camps in ceramics in a new state-of-the-art studio, and teen Summer "intensives" for artists 13 years old and above.

Adult afternoon and evening classes are offered this summer in ceramics, oils, acrylics and watercolors, photography and drawing. Saturday workshops explore  drawing, collage, animal portraits, watercolor, silverpoint, ceramics, palette knife and portraiture.

Whether it feels like it or not, spring is here! Come celebrate at  "Hooray for May! A Family Art Day" on Saturday, May 10th.

This is a special art day just for families, and it's completely free!  Art activities will take place in The Center's three studios and the outdoor pavilion, and guided family tours will be held throughout The Center's galleries. Children will make fun art projects to keep or give on Mother's Day the next day, and families will help create banners with muralist Dan Fenelon that will be displayed at sponsor locations throughout the community.

If you do not have young children at home, volunteers are needed to help with Hooray for May! Contact Danielle Wolfrum  for more information.

Spring symbolizes renewal and the creative life force! What will that look like for you?
